It’s hard to believe it’s been a full year since the fire.

The building has now been fully cleared, but it was never just a building. It was a place filled with memories — for our team, our guests, and the Winkler community.

We’re incredibly grateful for the support, messages, and kindness we’ve received over the past year. It meant more than we can say.

Today, we simply take a moment to remember.

We’ve been quietly working behind the scenes on what could be next for the former Quality Inn & Suites Winkler site.

One concept currently being explored: an indoor waterpark designed for year-round use.

Preliminary plans include:
• Multi-level waterslides
• Wave pool (with 20ft waves)
• Lazy river with optional current settings
• Adults-only hot tub area with all-you-can-drink Papsi (and obviously ravals)
• Climate-controlled environment maintained at +40°C

Additional ideas under consideration include a retractable roof for the two days of summer, Tim's on-site, and a dress code that is still being discussed.

We’re still in the early planning stages.
Further updates will be shared as planning continues.
Or maybe not.

This may be slightly ambitious thinking for April 1.

Winkler, MB – April 29, 2025 – Earlier today, a fire was reported on the roof of Quality Inn & Suites, located on Main Street in Winkler. Emergency response crews are currently on site working diligently to contain and extinguish the fire.

At this time, the cause of the fire remains unknown and is under investigation. Fortunately, all hotel guests, restaurant guests, staff, and pets inside the building at the time of the incident have been evacuated safely. No injuries are reported.

The safety and well-being of our guests, team members, and community are our top priorities. We are grateful for the swift response from emergency services and will continue to cooperate fully with their efforts. We'd also like to thank Dairy Queen for their care of our staff through this.

Operations at Quality Inn & Suites will remain suspended until authorities have completed their investigation and the building is deemed safe for reentry. Guests with existing reservations will be contacted directly with updates and support options.
