Horlings Plants We specialize in hardy and hard to find perennials, a numerous variety of potted annuals for planters and window boxes plus one of a kind moss baskets.

In 1959, John Horlings at the age of seven with his family docked at PIER 21 Halifax aboard the Groote Beer from Holland. The family continued by train to Ontario where John grew up in the family grocery and greenhouse business. After marrying, he and Liz made the decision to come back to Nova Scotia. With the help of their five children in 1991, John and Liz established a retail plant business pr

incipally selling at the Halifax Farmer’s Market. Now customers can shop at their growing site in the beautiful Gaspereau Valley. Their inventory includes hardy and hard to find field grown perennials, a numerous variety of potted annuals for planters and window boxes plus one of a kind moss baskets.

Hard to believe we’re halfway through summer but the best of the season is yet to come! Hoping all your gardens, planters and baskets are thriving and you are all able to enjoy the fruits of your labour…edible or simple pleasure! Again we thank you for supporting our little but thanks to you flourishing business. Even now, though the shop is closed, we’re preparing for May 2027!!! See you then!

Perennial grasses are putting on their growth spurt thanks to some soaking rain and warmer temperatures. Featured here is Miscanthus ‘purpurascens’ AKA ‘Flame Grass’ noted for its striking orange-red foliage in the fall; a 4 foot high clump with creamy plumes.
Besides Purpurescens we still have a good selection of various Miscanthus, Switchgrass, Fountain Grass and Andropogon to name a few. Come and get yours while supplies last!
