Camp Story

For three generations the Beaton and Looseyia families have worked in partnership at Mara Bush Houses. What began as a small cottage in the middle of the bush evolved into a traditional tented camp, and has now become a successful group of three private safari houses – the product of more than 30 years’ work in developing one of the most genuine cultural safari experiences in Africa.

In the intervening years the families have been joined by a small team of individuals, all of whom were born and raised on the plains of the Maasai Mara. The result is a unique cultural experience that gives guests the opportunity to explore, share and discover the ever-changing nature of the bush in the company of its natural guardians. The team brings with it long friendships and deep roots that give us all a good reason to be part of this wonderful family.

Situated in the Mara North Conservancy, which covers 30 000 acres and provides 422 direct jobs, Mara Bush Houses are at the forefront of turnaround tourism, Asilia’s term for the positive effect that tourism done well can have on Africa’s wild places. Looking into the future, Asilia is one of the driving forces behind the initiative to form an umbrella organisation. Our intention is to link all Mara conservancies – we think this will greatly improve the prospects for this crucial cultural and natural area.
