View from the upstairs balcony this morning. Fall in all its glory (and rain and fog) has arrived. We’ve cut the grass for the last time this year, pulled up the raised beds, weeded the herb patch and will let the leaves fall where they may so the insects have protection through to the spring. Ready for sweater weather and candle season. 🍂🍁🌰🐿️

David’s daughter and her friend came for a visit this weekend so it was lunch on the terrace today. Hints of Asian flavors through all the dishes. I have a bumper crop of Thai basil and it adds such a bright and fresh taste to everything. On the menu - pork loin with a ginger scallion sauce, Chinese cabbage and white peach salad with peanuts and herbs, sautéed Japanese eggplant with garlic chili sauce, smacked cucumbers with sesame seeds and steamed rice.

Was time to trim the on the terrace today. Hoping for a second bloom. Meanwhile, I’ll dry these out for sachets.

Had the privilege of cooking for our guests last night so decided to make a party of it and invite some friends over to share in the food. Loads of fresh herbs from our garden as well as local heirloom vegetables. The star was the beautiful Limousine steaks we brought back from France. Another hot but beautiful Swiss summer night

Finally had a bit of sun yesterday which means a long lunch on the terrace. It’s always so rewarding to have family visiting and filling this big house with joy and laughter. The summer season has officially started at La Villa Noire.

Post Easter Shepherds Pie 🥧 served with sautéed kale from the garden. And of course HP Sauce for the Brit in the family.

Couldn’t resist the sales - beautiful Swiss raised lamb gigots on sale at 50% off. A gigantic one went into the freezer for later and half of one became supper last night. I did an easy slow braise in the oven the day before and then shredded it for the pie. I was able to use all the jus leftover from our Easter lamb to really enrich the base. Topped with homemade mash and grated cheddar and Gruyere. Popped open a bottle of Bordeaux and enjoyed our Friday night in.
