Zipangu Grand Opening
We are happy to announce the opening of China’s first Zipangu by Nadaman in Pudong Shangri-La, East Shanghai. The Tokyo original offers a modern, yet authentic Japanese “izakaya” dining experience. The term “izakaya” is a combination of the two Japanese words “i” meaning “to stay” and “zakaya” meaning “sake shop”. It is often referred to as “Japanese pub” and mostly appeals to young professionals and the after-work crowd.
The restaurant offers a vibrant, interactive and casual atmosphere featuring a live cooking “Robota” counter and a sake bar and lounge area. The popular “izakaya” dining experience is not just about food, but more about conviviality and enjoyment.
Zipangu is a place to gather, chat and drink while savoring fine Japanese delicacies. The large selection of dishes is a wonderful interpretation of the art of the Japanese cuisine focussing on the innovative reworks of classic dishes by chef Tsuyoshi Motoyama. Along with the delicious meals guests can enjoy a great choice of drinks, including, among others, Japanese sake and whiskey.
The grand opening event, held on Tuesday, June 18, was marked by a spectacular “Wadaiko” performance and an authentic Japanese “Kagami Biraki” ceremony. “We hope young diners love the relaxing and fun ambience”, says Gregor Wateler general manager of our hotel.
