“The Year Beast Project” begins with the ”Year of Snake-Fire Spirit Festival “. Every year during the Lunar New Year, an artist will be invited to create a device at the Sugar House that combines the characteristics of the twelve zodiac animals and the imagination of the Year Beast. This work will be presented at the Sugar House before the New Year‘s Eve and will be on display during the Lunar New Year period. Finally, it will be burned on the fifth day of the Lunar New Year to complete the ” Fire Spirit Festival“ ceremony. This project will become an important celebration event for the AURUA brand during the Spring Festival every year.

On New Year’s Eve 2026, the “Super Star” installation, designed by Ma Yansong, was set ablaze. Hanging upon it were countless wishes—of farewell, hope, passion, and perseverance—all intertwining and ascending with the flames. As the silhouette of the star emerged from the fire, these wishes seemed to transform into light and warmth, coalescing into a collective ritual that illuminated the dawn of the new year.

As the glow of the fire gradually receded, the wishes settled quietly into the mountains and waters. At the Yangshuo Sugar House, floral artist Ling Zongyong was invited to unfold the second chapter of the transition with the theme “After the Sparks, Blossoms Continue.” There, he created the floral piece Unextinguished, drawing inspiration from the fleeting moments of meteors and fireworks—where light vanishes briefly, yet its trajectory and energy linger in the air and through time.

Sugar House New Year Arts Festival 2025-2026
The Sugar House New Year Arts Festival will run from December 12 to April 30, centered around the themes of “Gathering Wishes” and “Carrying Wishes Forward.”

The core installation, “Super Star,” designed by architect Ma Yansong, serves as a vessel for collective wishes. Its presentation will unfold in two stages—before and after the New Year’s Eve ceremony.

During the “Gathering Wishes” stage leading up to the ceremony, an online mini-program will collect wishes from participants. Each hope—letting go of the past or embracing the new year—will be gathered into “Super Star.”

These wishes will eventually take physical form on wooden plaques attached to the installation, becoming part of the landscape. This reflects the festival’s key purpose: transforming individual aspirations into shared memories, preserved in time.

In the “Carrying Wishes Forward” stage after the New Year’s Eve ceremony, “Super Star” will settle into the Sugar House grounds in a renewed state. From winter through spring, it will continue to coexist with nature.

Savory bites begin the experience gently: ham and melon rolls adorned with truffle sauce offer a sweet-salty blend, much like the anticipation of the season. The Christmas crab and pomelo cup adds a touch of refreshing brightness.

The dessert selection is a mini Christmas wonderland. A classic yule log cake holds rich indulgence, matcha cookies take the shape of Christmas trees, and reindeer puff pastries bring playful charm. The raspberry mousse, like a ruby, glows softly.

For drinks, you may choose the warm and sweet strawberry cocoa coffee or the delicate osmanthus tea, reminiscent of the subtle fragrance drifting outside the window.

On November 9, 2025, the exhibition ”Wandering,“ curated by the Guo Liaohui Studio, will open at the Tangshe Art Warehouse. Originally debuted at the Yulin Song · Design Space, this exhibition at Tangshe Art Warehouse continues its initial theme, tracing the narrative of eleven small pavilions scattered across the natural and human-made landscapes of rural China. These pavilions bring architect Guo Liaohui’s recent practices into the gallery space. No longer isolated structures in the countryside, the eleven pavilions are now woven together into a cohesive journey that visitors can leisurely explore within the exhibition. Among them are the Mù Firepit, the Resting Pavilion, the Viewing Pavilion, and the Winding Stream Restaurant, all located within the grounds of Yangshuo Tangshe. Let us follow the curatorial narrative and wander through diverse landscapes, allowing these ”small pavilions“ to offer alternative perspectives for contemplating the scenery. Immerse yourselves in the works to experience the architect‘s perceptions and reflections.

There’s no jarring modernity here, only the gentle collision of the old sugar mill’s tiles and beams with contemporary design. Every corner tells a story; the air itself carries the weight of time.
