Piedras de Maní: la roca que dio nombre a Manizales 🌋📜
Las “piedras de maní” son rocas graníticas grisáceas —mica, feldespato y cuarzo— que abundaban en los lechos de los ríos locales. Por su presencia se llamó Quebrada Manizales, y el conjunto de estas piedras, conocido como “manizal”, dio nombre a la región y, más tarde, a la ciudad. Históricamente fueron halladas sobre todo en la zona de la Maltería, al oriente de Manizales.
Hoy, además de su valor geológico, estas rocas son testigo del vínculo entre paisaje, identidad y memoria. Visítalas para entender cómo la tierra narra la historia de un pueblo entre montañas y café. ☕🌿

Piedras de Maní: the rock that gave Manizales its name 🌋📜
The “piedras de maní” are gray granite rocks—mica, feldspar, and quartz—that were abundant in local riverbeds. Their presence gave the name Quebrada Manizales, and a group of these stones, known as a “manizal,” lent its name to the region and later to the city. Historically they were found mainly in the Maltería area, east of Manizales.
Today, beyond their geological value, these rocks witness the link between landscape, identity, and memory. Visit them to understand how the land tells the story of a town among mountains and coffee. ☕🌿
