Sixty seconds in any place here tells you whether it’ll still be comfortable in six weeks.

Humidity on this coast runs between 70 and 95%. In those conditions, a building either breathes or it doesn’t — and you can tell which within a minute of walking in.

What to notice

A musty smell that’s still there after the place has been cleaned.

Paint that’s bubbling or peeling, especially low on the walls.

White powdery marks on concrete or plaster.

Floors that have warped or lifted at the edges.

What you want to see instead

Windows or doors on more than one side, so air moves through.

Ceiling fans.

Air conditioning you can run to dry the room out.

Did you know…? The beach at 7am and the beach at 1pm are not the same beach.

Santa Teresa gets 1-2 high tides and 1-2 low tides every day. And the beach changes with them.

At low tide the sand stretches out wide and flat. You can walk for ages, and the rock shelves and tide pools appear. Faster and hollower waves usually.

At high tide that same stretch narrows down, the water comes close to the treeline, and the rocks disappear under the surface. Fatter and a bit slower waves sometimes 😊

Another interesting fact is that the tide shifts about an hour later each day. Good to know when you are planning your day!

Quiet and remote are not the same thing. Some people book remote by accident.
Here’s how it happens… you read that the center of town is loud. Reasonable. So you look further out, and further out, and you end up somewhere genuinely peaceful, 3 km from anywhere, up a hill, no vehicle and a long walk.
You solved the noise. You bought a different problem.
You don’t need distance to sleep well here. You need to be a bit set back, off the road, behind a wall, with trees between you and everything else. Now this doesn’t cost you the walk into town.

A six week stay doesn’t need perfect weather as do short stays. When you are here for a month, a rainy afternoon is welcomed!
You work, you cook, you read on the porch and listen to it come down. You nap.
The next morning is clear again and you still have many more sunny days to come.
This is why our longest stays happen in green season. The people who stay the longest are the ones where everyday is perfect!

Rains ha been coming and going. Nobody’s call has dropped.
Here’s what I tell remote workers who book Green Season:
Every studio has a real desk and a real chair. Not a bed with a laptop on it.
Fiber wifi throughout the property — 160 mbps and a Starlink connection for back up!
Outages happen, usually short. That’s true anywhere in this town, not just here.

Yes, some roads here need a 4x4 in October.

No, you don’t need one to reach us.

Three ways in:
Ferry from Puntarenas, then the drive down. The scenic one.
Direct shuttle from San José. Door to door, no decisions.
Short flight to Cobano, then a transfer. The fastest.

Our gate sits right on the main road, so getting here isn’t the hard part.

Once you’re here, the beach is a three minute walk. Most of our long-stay guests never rent a vehicle at all, they prefer the bikes we have! The ones who want to explore rent a quad in town for the day.

It doesn’t rain all day during our green season. A day like today… clear morning, sun, surf, beach. It looks like it will be sunny all day… perhaps a nice shower in the early evening, ensuring an amazing sunset.
Then it will stop.
So you don’t lose a day… maybe an afternoon here and there, and you get the greenest version of this town in exchange!
