We are so lucky to have Guanábana growing right here in our backyard! This tropical superstar is a must-try for anyone visiting Costa Rica. 🇨🇷✨ Ask for a glass of guanábana juice at most Costa Rica restaurants.

🐒Monkeys are opportunistic foragers that frequently raid our garden trees for this sweet, fleshy fruits.

Natural Camouflage: As you can see in the last photo, these large, spiky green fruits love to hide among the glossy leaves! 👣Take your time, and look up as you visit our garden. 👀

💦When people come to visit they often ask if the water is safe to drink. The answer is YES and it is DELICIOUS! Our water comes from this waterfall just up the street.

🌱This beautiful Walking Iris popped up in the garden behind the pool. Their bloom typically only lasts a single day. After blooming, new plantlets form on the flower stalks, causing them to bend and take root in the ground, making the plant appear to "walk". Keep an eye out for these beauties and take a picture because they won't look the same tomorrow! 😲👀📸

Costa Rica's rainforests are home to one of the most complex animal societies on Earth: the leafcutter ant. They do not eat the leaves they carry. Instead, they use the vegetation as fertilizer to grow a specific type of fungus, which serves as the colony’s primary food source. Once you understand how interesting and complex they are, you can more easily forgive them for stripping your favorite plant overnight. 😲

There’s something primeval about waking up to the roar of a howler monkey at 4:30 AM. 🌿🌑
While it’s a bit earlier than we’d choose, hearing this male call out to the jungle from our own garden is a reminder of how lucky we are to live in the heart of the tropics. These "shouting matches" at dawn are how they determine territory boundaries without ever having to fight.
Watching him sit high in the canopy as the mist clears is the best kind of jungle magic. ✨

Stelis Superbiens common name "The Really Nice and Large Stelis" Don't let the name fool you! While the stem is over a foot tall, its flowers are tiny, half-inch gems. It’s a masterclass in why we should slow down in the jungle—otherwise, you'd walk right past this incredible beauty without ever seeing it. This orchid was blooming in our driveway!

Red Torch Ginger. This bright sturdy flower popped up in our garden! We read that these beauties are edible and taste both tangy & sour. They are said to have medicinal & therapeutic applications as well. Be sure to consult a professional before ingesting anything you find in the jungle. 🤔

"One-Day Orchid" (Sobralia) It's so beautiful but don't blink or you'll miss it. The bloom only lasts for 24 hours or less! We have many of these wild orchids growing in our garden. While the bloom only lasts a day, they produce many flowers on the same stem which allows for multiple booms over several weeks. 🌿
