Congratulations, Karen and Jerry, on this incredible sighting and on capturing such a beautiful photograph. they were super lucky to observe an Agami Heron, one of the most special and difficult birds to spot in the tropical rainforest.

Interestingly, around a year ago we were also fortunate enough to see an Agami Heron during this same season, so it seems the forest wanted to gift us this moment once again.

Thank you as well for sharing the photo and for being part of such a special experience.

What is Cordyceps?

Cordyceps is a parasitic fungus that infects insects and takes control of their bodies.

It enters the host, grows inside, and alters its behavior, forcing it to move to a place ideal for reproduction… almost like a “zombie.”

In the end, the fungus kills the insect and emerges from its body to release spores.

Cacao in Costa Rica.

Long before it became chocolate, cacao was used by indigenous cultures as a bitter drink, a form of exchange, and part of ceremonial life.

During the colonial period, it was an important crop on the Caribbean coast. Production later declined, and in the 1970s diseases severely affected most plantations.

Today, cacao in Costa Rica is making a quiet comeback, focused on quality rather than volume, often grown in agroforestry systems that work with the forest.

Each cacao bean carries a connection between past and present, from traditional use to modern craft chocolate.
