At Indigo, it's all about the beds! We think when you are traveling, you deserve a great night's sleep. That's why I bought the best pillow top mattresses I could find. So whether you are in the queen bed in the private room, or in one of the twin beds in the bunk room, it's all about the zzzzzzz's!!!

The whole idea behind Indigo is to make it as eco-friendly as possible. We are starting with a focus on "R's" -- Reuse, Recycle, Reclaim, Refurbish.... how many others can you suggest?
So step one was to strip the house of what we need to replace, but everything got saved (wait until you see some of the reuses we have come up with for some of this!) All of the beautiful wood strips on the walls and ceilings came off and stored, cabinets and bathrooms are out, and a few walls are down to open up the house. The roof came off (it is making a really cool fence!) and the ceiling got raised. Eventually, this house will be the common area kitchen and living room, and a managers apartment and reception area. But... because we are still waiting on permits for the expansion out back, we will be finishing and renting just the house as either a hostel (6-8 beds) or a full house that sleeps 8 for short term rentals.

Today I am on a mission. I’m driving four hours each way to go from Playa del Coco to San Jose to find fabric! When I purchased the house they had these really cool big wooden sofa and chairs in it and I’ve been sanding and re-staining them, and now I need to find the perfect fabric for them. Refurbish!!!

Just as a reminder, this is where I started from. I purchased a small, 3 bedroom house on a big lot in downtown Coco. Walking distance to all the shops, bars and restaurants, so I followed the principal of location, location, location! Wait until you see what it will look like when finished!

It has been awhile since I posted - not surprising, my project got held up in all the layers of permitting required in Costa Rica. But, we are back on track, and have a plan for opening the project in stages. Right now, the small house that was on the property is almost completed being renovated, and is adorable! It will be ready to rent for Easter! I'll start feeding photos of the progress!

What is a Hometel?

Hmmm... a home? Well yes, but not really. A hotel? Sort of, you do rent by the room, and each room is beautiful - twin or king bed, private bath with walk-in tile shower, the most comfortable bed you will sleep in in Coco. But it is really a combination of the two. You will have the privacy of a hotel room, but with all of the access to home features - a beautiful well equipped kitchen, family room with big screen tv, outdoor grills and common areas, washer and dryer that will be shared by any guests staying at Indigo. Which will be limited to 8 rooms. And the twist - they will be manufactured from shipping containers! Watch this site as the building progresses and the story will continue. And start planning a visit for late summer 2018!
