Season by season, for hundreds of years, our ceiba tree (Ceiba pentandra) has stretched upward, rooted deeper, widened its base, and quietly built a world around it...

What a start of the year on the water 🌊

2026 is turning into a true bump year for whale sharks. These gentle giants are congregating right here, just off our shoreline, at our very doorstep in the calm waters of the Golfo Dulce.

To watch a whale shark approach slowly alongside our boat — unhurried, immense, completely at ease — is humbling beyond words. We feel profoundly privileged to share this stretch of ocean with them 🩵.

Moments like this are a reminder: this place is still wild. And we are only guests.

Golfo Dulce isn’t known as a dive destination—and that’s exactly what makes it special. Beneath the surface lies an enchanting liquid world of healthy reefs, abundant fish life, quiet macro moments, and even wrecks resting in warm Pacific waters. Diving here is unhurried, uncrowded, and deeply alive.

Our special Golfo Dulce in southern Costa Rica just got a little richer in life!
Golfo Dulce Retreat was proud to be one of the sponsors of Coralmania 2025, which took place yesterday — a massive coral outplanting event organised by and led by the unstoppable Dr. Joanie Kleypas, working to ensure that this is conserved in all its wonderful biodiversity and that coastal communities are protected for generations to come.
More than 700 corals were planted — tiny living architects that will grow into the beating heart of the Golfo Dulce reefs, sheltering, feeding, and protecting everything around them.
From large schools of spadefish, to shy hawksbill turtles, to the tiniest reef creatures that depend on healthy corals to survive, we spent a beautiful day above and below the water, surrounded by raw, pristine nature that reminded us of the urgent need to safeguard these extraordinary places on Earth.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who made it possible and kept us safe — especially Mary Laura, José Andrés, and Carlos Zamora. We hope to meet underwater again soon!
