El Miro is the name for the unfinished, abandoned mansion on a mountain overlooking Jacó, Costa Rica. The most common story is that a wealthy European man, possibly of Yugoslavian or Canadian descent, started building the large structure in the 1990s intending to create a luxurious hotel or home, but died of cancer before he could finish it. The property has since been overtaken by the jungle and transformed into a popular hiking destination adorned with vibrant graffiti and murals from artists.
Intended purpose: The site was originally planned in the 1990s as a luxury hotel or mansion.

Reason for abandonment: The project stopped because the owner, a wealthy European man, died before it was completed.

Current state: The incomplete three-story building is now a unique art destination, covered in colorful graffiti and murals.

Current use: Hikers, tourists, and artists visit El Miro for the panoramic ocean views, the unique art, and the moderately challenging hike to the top.
