The Legend of the Guardian in the Mask
They say that long ago, people in the tropical forests lived in constant fear. Snakes were everywhere — in the grass, in the trees, and at the very doorsteps of their homes. Many were venomous, and people feared every rustle, never knowing where danger might be hiding.
The people turned to the spirits of the forest, pleading for help. And so, the spirits sent them a protector — the bird called Guaco.
But before sending him to earth, the spirits placed a special black mask upon him:
• It wasn’t just a pattern — the mask gave Guaco “double vision.”
• It allowed him to see through dense foliage and recognize a hidden threat where a human eye saw only a shadow.
• The mask became a symbol of his fearlessness: once he put it on, Guaco forgot the meaning of fear, even in the face of venom.
Since then, the Guaco has tirelessly patrolled the jungles. He laughs in the face of danger, and wherever his voice is heard, the snakes retreat, and people can sleep in peace.
La Leyenda del Guardián de la Máscara
Cuentan que hace mucho tiempo, la gente de las selvas tropicales vivía con un miedo constante. Las serpientes estaban por todas partes: en la hierba, en los árboles y hasta en los umbrales de las casas. Muchas eran venenosas, y la gente temía cada crujido, sin saber dónde se escondía el peligro.
El pueblo suplicó ayuda a los espíritus del bosque. Y entonces, los espíritus les enviaron un protector: el ave Guaco.
Pero antes de enviarlo a la tierra, los espíritus le pusieron una máscara negra especial:
• No era solo un color — la máscara le dio al Guaco una “visión doble”.
• Le permitía ver a través del denso follaje y reconocer una amenaza oculta donde el ojo humano solo veía una sombra.
• La máscara se convirtió en el símbolo de su valentía: al ponérsela, el Guaco olvidó para siempre lo que era el miedo al veneno.
Desde entonces, el Guaco patrulla incansablemente las selvas. Se ríe en la cara del peligro, y dondequiera que se escuche su voz, las serpientes se retiran y la gente puede dormir tranquila.
