Have you ever hear about kinkajous before🧐?

They are probably one of weirdest animals in our sanctuary.

They are known as honey bears🐻🍯 and that's probably an accurate name as they are from the carnivora family but they eat mainly, fruits, flowers, nectar, insects and of course honey.

They are also quite mysterious animals, as their social structure and feeding habits aren't very well known and are very difficult to study due to their nocturnal habits.

🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱

¿Alguna vez has oído hablar de kinkajous o martillas antes 🧐?

Our nursery is getting incredibly busy😵, we just opened a month ago and we didn't stop receiving babies since then.

Like this little opossum called Petunia🌺, she arrived without any hair and with her eyes completely closed, she probably fell from her mother and got lost but luckily someone found her and brought her directly to our rescue center.

Now we are seeing her grow every day.

Sometime we get some very special rescues‼️

Like this caiman🐊 (𝘊𝘢𝘪𝘮𝘢𝘯 𝘤𝘳𝘰𝘤𝘰𝘥𝘪𝘭𝘶𝘴) that was found way too close to a human populated area so it had to be removed to prevent risks for humans and pets.

He was bring to our clinic👩🏽‍⚕️ to check his health state and seeing that he was in a very good shape he was able to go back to nature the day after💧.

Sometime we have to relocate animals to a new location when they represent an immediate danger⚠️ for humans, but we always make sure to put them back in a wilder🌴 place so they can continue their lives without putting anyone in risk.

Check the video of it's ralease in our stories⬆️

🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱

✨Do you remember Ezequielin?✨

He is a very special animal for us as he was the first baby👼🏼 in our new nursery.

He is growing up so fast! He already moves around a lot more but he keeps going back to his teddy monkey for comfort. The squirrel monkeys🐒 usually spend their first months in the back of their mums and little by little they start exploring around leaving the back for longer and longer periods each time.

We hope that very soon he'll be able to go to a bigger enclosure to get some sunlight🌞 and star exercising💪.

🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱

✨¿Recuerdas a Ezequielín?✨

⚠️This beautiful toucan was hitten by a car⚠️, he was found in the middle of the road in Quepos by some people kind enough to pick him up.

His state was critical, we did X-ray🩻 to confirm what we suspected borth legs presented fractures🦴 and he had severe internal problems affecting his lungs🫁. Unluckily it was too late for us to be able to do something for him.

Car accidents🚗 is one of the main reasons why animals, like birds, monkeys, sloths, iguanas, anteaters etc. arrive to our rescue center and usually the prognosis is very bad, the best way to help them is prevention‼️

Please drive slow in places where wildlife could cross⚠️!!!

✨Animals will be grateful✨

🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱

Enjoy señor Donna having his favourite meal, leafs🍃

In the wild the diet of the sloths is based basically on leafs, as this food is very poor in nutrients it doesn't give them too much energy and that's the main reason for sloths being soooooo slow🦥.

🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱

The objective of a wildlife rescue center🆘 is to be able to rescue, recover and release wildlife in need but this isn't always as easy as it sounds, some animals can't be released for different reasons and that's why we also have a Sanctuary, a place designed for all those animals that can't be released.

That's the case for Clyde, he was part of a reintroduction program for squirrel monkeys🐒, which objective was trying to release a group of rescued orphaned squirrel monkeys. In order to do so we tried different factors, like their ability to find food🥥, recognize predators🦅 or communicate with other individuals💬.

We were able to release most of them, around 20 individuals were set free around our sanctuary so we could keep an eye on them. Unluckily Clyde was one of the few that didn't pass the "test" as he show some abnormal behavior, was way smaller than the others and he wasn't vocalizing back to the other animals.

That's why he stayed with us in the sanctuary where we try to give him the best life possible, with lots of enrichment and furniture in his enclosure.

🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱

When you think about a primate🦧 one of the most characteristic things are their hands👐, with the prehensile thumb that allows primates to manipulate objects. But there are two exceptions to this rule, the colobus monkeys from Africa and the spider monkeys from South America. Them both lost the thumbs in evolution as an adaptation to move around the jungle🌳.

That's why this animals have a bit of a funny look🧐 when they manipulate objects, as they just can use their four long fingers to grab them. Like our Darwin in the photo. He is a spider monkey and therefore he compensates the lack of a thumb with an extremely strong prehensile tail that is able to hold his own weigh💪🏼.

Check our stories for some video of Darwin using his hands and tail⬆️.

🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱

This is George, a 🔥Fiery-billed Aracari🔥 that arrived to us with a fracture on his wing. He got a bandaged to prevent him from moving it too much and he is getting physiotherapy every week to improve the movement on his wing🦅.

We hope that thanks to the care of out vet team👩‍⚕️ he'll be able to go back to the wild soon🌴.

You can check our instagram stories to learn more about the rehabilitation of George⬆️.

We can finally say that our nursery is completely finish‼️

And even better we already got our first animals😻!

This is Ezequielín, a squirrel monkey🐒 that was found in the parking lot of a hotel, he probably fell from his mum and got hitten against the ground. Luckily for him the employees form the hotel called us and he was brought to Kids Saving The Rainforest, where he is improving every day.

✨Thank you to everyone that made this project possible✨, thanks to your help we will be able to save lots of babies like Ezequielín.

Do you know why you should never have a primate as a pet?🧐

There are multiple reasons but the main ones are, that they can be dangerous⚠️ animals, that has a great impact on wild populations 🐒 and that is very difficult that a wild animal can adapt to the live in captivity🏡.

Check the photos to know more about each of this reason.⬇️
