For those of you who are true adventure seekers and for those who love unspoiled beauty in remote corners of the world then Puerto Viejo is the destination for you. Our mission is to offer you a unforgettable vacation at affordable price with all the amenities you need to enjoy your Stay at the Caribbean. Surrounded by immense mountains dropping down to a beautifully clear azure blue Caribbean Sea
the South East coast of Costa Rica has always been cut off from the civilized world and has sheltered some of the last remaining indigenous tribes of all of Central America, and even the world. They are a people who hand their traditions down through storytelling and whose ways remain refreshingly unchanged in this so called modern world. The Southern Caribbean coast remains green year round and the density and size of the jungle plants and the deep brooding natural jungle will hold you in awe. Every leaf, every spider, every single living plant and animal seems larger than life here will absolutely astound you! And if Amazing Scenery isn’t enough…
We were astounded by the 50 or so miles of coast line leading up to Puerto Viejo. Untouched by man few if any people on the beach this scenic entry to Puerto Viejo was beyond compare. If you like beautiful white sand beaches with nothing but coconut palms, and wind whistling across a clear blue Caribbean sky then you will love the southern Caribbean coast. Small farm, stands dot the road leading into Puerto Viejo and some of the exotic products were very interesting, especially the cold pressed coconut oil that can be found at a very cheap price. Considering all the beautiful ocean front I will mention that what might seem obvious is true. Every water, or underwater sport you can imagine is available here from kite surfing, to spear fishing to laying on the beach soaking up rays. It’s all here. One can enjoy it all and rarely will you find such an incredibly beautiful unspoiled place to indulge your passions. Let’s get to the meat & Potatoes…
Puerto Viejo and the Southern Caribbean of Costa Rica are a terrific vacation destination if only for the reasons described above. But there is icing on this very handsome cake. The life in and around Puerto Viejo can only be described as eclectic, interesting, fun and continually vibrant. Amazingly visitors will find this little Oceanside pueblo hopping with people on a year around basis. Puerto Viejo has long been a well-kept secret among the European crowd and here is the reason why. Puerto a Viejo as mentioned is a truly eclectic mix. It is a little like French Bistro, meets beachside Italian, meets California Bohemian, meets tropical jungle meets New York music, and food. And honestly if you party a little too close to the railing in some places you will literally fall into the ocean. The way Puerto Viejo meets the ocean with lots of small vendor stalls, right on the tide line, little hide away restaurants and spectacular dining options it is really no wonder the Europeans have been keeping this place a secret. And if you’re feeling active…
There are so many interesting things to do in Puerto Viejo it is almost hard to know where to start. For the physically adventurous all manner of ocean and river sporting can be found here in the extreme. In fact on the fresh water side the Pacuare river offers some of the most gnarly white water rafting to be found in the world, and if the ocean is where your heart lay Puerto Viejo boasts one of the longest left handed breaks in the world. In fact Puerto Viejo is the home of Costa Rica’s greatest surf champion. Surfs Up! For those of you that are culturally motivated then a trip to visit the camps of the remaining indigenous tribes to learn about their history and culture is amazingly educational and interesting. Another of the cool set of activities revolves around a major staple and historically mystical plant called the cacao. Yes that’s right this area boasts the native cacao bean pods that can be seen everywhere and this is where chocolate comes from. The cacao was revered by ancient peoples for its therapeutic and healing properties, and today one can visit farms where they raise and process the cacao bean into fine chocolate. The process is quite fascinating. And OH! The Food…
Upon your visit to Puerto Viejo you will literally be astounded at the multitude of gourmet dining choices one has to choose from. There are literally 20-25 restaurants in the area competing for a top spot and all of them are marvelous choices. The restaurants string out from the center of town along he beach road south and many are combined with lovely hotels, hostels and bed and breakfast style choices tucked into the jungle just a stone’s throw from the beach. Overall the cuisine is very moderately priced and the cuisine choices range from Thai, to Indian, to some of the best Italian this side of Italy. Blend that in with a little local Caribbean flair and overall with Puerto Viejo one has a truly spicy mix and one incredible destination.
