While half the country is getting sick of the rain… we’re enjoying the pool, the sunshine and the Caribbean heat. Getting here may take some patience. Worth it.

Mientras medio país parece estar nadando en lluvia… por aquí nadamos en la piscina. Seguimos con sol, calor y Caribe. Sí, llegar puede requerir paciencia. Pero vale la pena.

Agoutis are often described as mini capybaras.
Which is slightly unfair to both.
Agoutis are smaller, considerably less cool and nowhere near as chill. But they are much better gardeners: they bury seeds for later, forget where they put them, and accidentally plant new trees.
Basically, they wander around looking mildly suspicious, quietly reforesting the jungle.
And now they’re training the next generation.

The jungle is not a showroom.
Leaves get battered by tropical rain, nibbled by insects and occasionally reduced to something resembling lace. These grasshoppers are among the more enthusiastic contributors.
Could we spray them? Obviously.
But that would not only affect the creatures eating the plants. It would affect the birds, frogs, lizards and everything else that depends on them.
So the garden stays a little wild, a little chewed and very much alive.

Swimming with turtles isn’t a thing here - yet. But we have a feeling it could catch on.
(Just kidding! We would never force a turtle to swim with us. This one, however, seemed suspiciously fond of the pool jet at Casa Heliconia.)

Nadar con tortugas todavía no es una experiencia oficial aquí… pero creemos que podría ponerse de moda.
(Es broma. Nunca obligaríamos a una tortuga a nadar con nosotros. Pero esta, la verdad, parecía bastante encantada con el chorro de agua de la piscina de Casa Heliconia.)
