Before you plan your Costa Rica trip, there are a few things worth knowing. 🌿
Costa Rica is beautiful. But it doesn't always work exactly the way people imagine before they arrive.
A drive that looks short on a map may take much longer.
Rainy season doesn't necessarily mean rain all day.
The Pacific and Caribbean coasts have very different climates and personalities.
Wildlife is everywhere—but wild animals don't follow an itinerary.
And you don't have to spend every day on an excursion to have an incredible vacation.
One of the biggest things we've learned from living here and hosting travelers is that your home base matters.
When you choose somewhere private, comfortable and immersed in nature, the accommodation itself becomes part of the trip.
You can explore all morning and come home to a pool.
Cook dinner together.
Sit beside the river.
Watch a tropical rainstorm.
Take a slow afternoon.
Or simply decide that today, you aren't going anywhere.
That's still experiencing Costa Rica.
We just published a new Journal entry exploring some of the biggest Costa Rica travel expectations vs. reality—and the things we wish first-time visitors knew before they started planning.
