An early morning on the Savegre. 🛶

The river was almost completely ours — birds along the banks, monkeys in the trees, and the kind of quiet that makes you notice everything a little more.

As we moved downstream, you could start hearing the waves before seeing the ocean. Then the river opened into the Pacific, and a few minutes later we were paddling through mangrove channels under the branches.

There was something about starting the morning this way that stayed with me.

Not because it felt like a big adventure, but because for a few hours, there was nowhere else to be.

An early morning on the Savegre. 🛶

The river was almost completely ours — birds along the banks, monkeys in the trees, and the kind of quiet that makes you notice everything a little more.

If you came to Costa Rica to spend more time outside, this is a pretty good way to do it.

Kayaking the lower Savegre River takes you from freshwater into the mangroves and eventually toward the Pacific Coast — watching the landscape change as you go.

No rush. Just a few hours on the water, wildlife somewhere around you, and a completely different view of this part of Costa Rica.

And when the timing works out, sunset is waiting at the other end.
