Casa Alfi has been sold and will be closing its doors after October, so you have a limited amount of time to come and stay and enjoy this great location from which to enjoy all the entertainment and cultural events that downtown San José has to offer!

If you are an Opera Fan, then this is for you! The National Theater will be having a presentation of Giacomo Puccinis' LA BOHEME. This is the first time the National Theater offers this opera in 20 years so catch it now or possibly wait another 20 years! Presentations will be on the following dates and times: Friday the 22nd July, Tuesday the 26th, Thursday the 28th, and Friday the 29th, all at 7:30 pm and also on Sunday the 24th and Sunday the 31st at 5pm. Ticket prices go from 2000 to 30,000 colones based on seat location and there is a 10% discount for Seniors with ID and 40% discount for Students. Rainy Season is upon us but no need to worry as it is only the occasional afternoon showers which leave the city feeling refreshed and clean. This is also a great time to spend some time in the city and try out the many excellent restaurants located within a short walking distance from our hotel, or maybe take in some of the National Theater offerings or see some of the latest movies. If you understand some Spanish then one of the many live theater performances is a must see and of course so many museums to check out. Have you had a chance to visit the fairly new 5-story Jade Museum building? If not this is definitely one to take in and see lots of interesting exhibits which include a lot more than just the Jade exhibits! San José is a vibrant city with lots to do! This Saturday the 23rd you can catch a one time only performance at 8pm at the National Theater, of La Mandrágora, a fable of Florence Art Comedy presented by the National Theater in conjunction with the Embassy of Italy. There is so much going on in town...dozens of tent shops around the Central Park and by the Theater. Many live music presentations such as at the Jazz Café and El Sotano, live theater, first run movies, avant garde movies for free at the Cinematography Institute in Barrío Amón, a Ton of Restaurants to discover as well as Bars from which to people watch...AND best of all, you can stay with us (breakfast included) and be within walking distance of all the action for prices sooooo good that staying at home is unthinkable! Yesterday, I had a chance to enjoy a leisurely Sunday in San José. Since locals are allowed free entry on Sundays to the National Museum I thought it would be a good place to start (normal entry fee is about $4 for locals and $9 for tourists and $4 for foreign students with ID - Museum is closed on Mondays for Exhibit maintenance) since this museum serves up a wide variety of History, Anthropology and Archeology as well as Natural History, it will definitely keep you entertained for a full afternoon. After this enjoyable and educational tour, a visit to the National Theater Cafe was the perfect way to round out the afternoon with some delicious desserts and an ample variety of hot and cold coffee beverages to choose from (see Cafe and Menu photos).

The Lankester Botanical Gardens are a set of gardens outside of Cartago, Costa Rica. The garden is open to the public, but is operated by the University of Costa Rica as a research center.
The garden was originally created as a private garden by British orchid enthusiast Charles H. Lankester in the 1940s. After his death, the American Orchid Society and the Stanley Smith Horticultural Trust worked to have the gardens preserved, and on March 2nd, 1973, the garden was donated to the University of Costa Rica.
