Niš Fortress is a complex and important cultural and historical monument. It rises on the right bank of the Nišava River, overlooking the area inhabited for longer than two millennia. It was protected by law in May 1948 as it was declared a cultural site of great significance. The current condition of the fortress lists it as one of the best-preserved fortifications of this kind in Serbia as well as on the Balkan Peninsula.

The existing fortification is of Ottoman Turkish origin, dating from the first decades of the 18th century (1719–1723). It is well known as one of the most significant and best-preserved monuments of this kind in the mid-Balkans. The Fortress was erected on the site of earlier fortifications – the ancient Roman, Byzantine, and later yet Medieval forts. During World War I it was occupied by Bulgarians who turned it into a prison where Serbian patriots were imprisoned.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝘂𝗯𝗮𝗻𝗷 𝗠𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗸 is a memorial complex, built in memory of the executed citizens of Niš and southern Serbia in the Second World War, and is located southwest of Niš. The Bubanj Memorial Park, as an authentic place of mass fascist terror, was placed under state protection in May 1973. While in April 1979, by the decision of the Assembly of Serbia, the Bubanj Memorial Park was declared a cultural asset of exceptional importance.

Scaffolds were originally marked with a memorial pyramid in 1950, while a new monument, the work of sculptor Ivan Sabolić, was unveiled in 1963. The whole complex is landscaped, with a memorial path that is about half a kilometer long, and a marble relief measuring 23 x 2.5 m composed of five compositions symbolizing the “killing machine”, hanging and shooting, rebellion, capitulation of the conquerors and victory, and three concrete obelisks symbolizing raised hands with clenched fists. Within the Bubanj Memorial Park, there is also a chapel that was later added in 2004, it was built of glass and metal, the work of architect Aleksandar Buđevac.

Each of the three fists is of different size and they represent a symbol of men’s, women’s and children’s hands defying the enemy because whole families were shot.

Every city in the world has that one street that everyone somehow knows because it is the main, special, central, soul of the city. Belgrade has Knez Mihailova Street, while Niš has Obrenović Street.
The main pedestrian zone of the city is special for its numerous shops, cafes, pastry shops, recently there is also a cinema... which is located in architecturally preserved buildings, of which the house of the merchant Andonović, built between the two world wars, stands out.

𝗧𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗔𝗹𝗹𝗲𝘆 ( also known as 𝗖𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗺𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗔𝗹𝗹𝗲𝘆) is the last preserved street of the former Niš bazar. At the beginning of the 19th century, it was a craftsmen alley and until the last years of the 20th century, old shops and several hoses from the Ottoman period were preserved. These buildings have been renovated over time and redesigned as restaurants, bars, taverns and hotels still preserving the spirit of the old architecture.
