We’ve been learning Serbian since we arrived in early 2023 — and wow, what a ride it’s been 🎢🇷🇸

Everyone told us, “It’s similar to Russian!” Spoiler alert: It’s not. 😂
Yes, some words are identical 🫡 — which is great…
BUT then you find out that “vredan” means “nasty” in Russian and “valuable” in Serbian. So yeah... things get awkward fast 😬😅

Grammar? Let’s just say Serbian has a “fun” habit of breaking every rule with 5 exceptions 🤯📖
But hey, it keeps things interesting, right?

We’ve stayed (mostly) sane thanks to:

🤖 And of course… ChatGPT (lifesaver)

During our trip to Vrdnik, we visited the amazing Vrdnik Fortress — a true hidden gem! 🌟

Although only parts of the medieval walls remain 🧱, the view from the top is breathtaking 🌄 — you can see across the green hills and vineyards 🍇. It’s the perfect spot for a peaceful break, photos 📸, and a little bit of history 📖.

The hike to the fortress is short and easy 🚶‍♀️, making it a great mini adventure. Bring comfy shoes and a bottle of water! 🥾💧 The fresh air and stunning panorama make it so worth it 🌬️✨.

Getting there:
From Novi Sad, Vrdnik is about 30 minutes by car 🚗. You can also take a bus 🚌 No 86 from the main bus station to Vrdnik town and walk up to the fortress.

Feeling sporty? 🚴‍♂️ The route is also popular among cyclists who enjoy the scenic ride through Fruška Gora 🌲.

This week, we took a few days off and visited the lovely town of Vrdnik 🏞️ — just a short drive from Novi Sad 🚗. It’s a peaceful spot nestled by Fruška Gora National Park 🌲, perfect for a nature-filled getaway.

One of the highlights was definitely Fruške Terme 💧🧖‍♀️ — a beautiful spa resort known for its thermal pools, relaxing saunas, and amazing views. Total bliss! 😌✨

If you’re looking for a mix of nature, wellness, and tranquility, Vrdnik is such a gem 💎🌄. We already can’t wait to go back!

1. Novi Sad Used to Switch Countries Like Outfits.
Novi Sad has changed rulers more than 10 times in the past few centuries — Austro-Hungarian, Ottoman, Serbian, Yugoslav… locals joke the borders moved more than they did!

2. A Fortress That Never Fought a Battle.
Petrovaradin Fortress, this massive and impressive stronghold, was never attacked. All that defence… and not a single proper siege. Just a lot of parties now.

3. Underground Labyrinths… With No Map.
There are over 16 km of underground tunnels beneath Petrovaradin — but many parts remain unmapped. Locals call it a “Swiss cheese of secrets.”

4. Nicknamed the “Serbian Athens”.
In the 19th century, Novi Sad was so packed with poets, artists, and thinkers that it got this nickname. Imagine a coffee shop full of dramatic poets and rakija.
5. It Once Had More Bookstores Than Bars.
In the 1800s, Novi Sad had more bookstores than pubs — rare for any city in the Balkans. Locals were literally obsessed with literature.
6. The Danube Almost Split the City.
Petrovaradin and Novi Sad were separate cities divided by the Danube until a floating bridge connected them. Sometimes it was… missing. So, people rowed across.
7. “Freedom Square” Was Once a Cow Market.
The beautiful Liberty Square in the centre… Back in the day, it was a cattle market. Hard to picture cows hanging out where cafes now serve espresso.

Well-designed lighting helps to provide better experience to a guest which is especially vital in a confined space of a studio. Also, it helps the guest to recuperate quicker after a tiring journey.

We would like to share some tips what we do with the lighting in our apartments.

With lighting we divide the studio space into zones - kitchen and sleeping areas and entrance area. We install a major light source for each zone. Together all sources give the studio prominent glare.

We also have few secondary lights source, for example by a bed or an armchair. They give the guest a possibility to manage the light intensity. They may leave a light on at night if they have a child.

We never use cold light in our apartments because of its stimulating qualities. It may annoy guests after a long journey.

All our light sources are either warm or have a daylight quality. They help a guest to relax and have more productive rest after arrival.

Good quality light improves guests’ sense of comfort and well-being in the apartment.❤️😊
