As a sort of partner to the "Birds of Cape Verde" I have now scanned "Endemic Plants and Indigenous Trees of the Cape Verde Islands". Nature lovers sometimes tend to focus on the showier and more noticeable species found here, like whales and dolphins, or colorful fish and birds. Plants are for many more like a backdrop, and while not necessarily shunned--- as are (the also fascinating) life forms like insects and spiders--- are often overlooked. This guide does not include many or even most of the plants you will encounter here, which are often introduced species (brought in by humans, intentionally or unintentionally), as opposed to endemic (occurring only in Cape Verde) or indigenous (occurring naturally here, but also in other parts of the world); nevertheless, the interesting text---in English!--- and the accurate yet beautiful illustrations will be of interest to plant aficionados and hopefully generate some botanical neophytes. This small but informative guide "Birds of Cape Verde" was published in 1993. In the first years of the new millenium we were still able to get a number of copies, which we passed on to other interested people, but the supply ran out and it seems they are not being printed anymore. We scanned the last pristine copy and would like to share it with all who are interested. The link below will bring you to all the pages of the book.
