Sundays in North Cyprus 🇨🇾☀️

There’s something about Sundays here.

A late breakfast, perhaps a morning by the pool, then deciding where to go for lunch. No real timetable and no particular reason to hurry back.

Maybe a table overlooking the sea, a few meze to start, something from the grill, and one of those lunches that somehow takes up most of the afternoon.

Then back home as the heat starts to disappear and the evening begins.

Sometimes a holiday doesn’t need an itinerary.

Breakfast with a view ☀️🌊

This morning we’re at Kervansaray, around 20 min drive from the villa.

One of those North Cyprus mornings where breakfast comes with blue skies, the Mediterranean in front of you and the Kyrenia mountains running along the horizon.

We’re spending some time exploring while we’re here, revisiting old favourites and finding a few new places to add to our recommendations for guests.

It’s a hard job sometimes… 😂

Next in our local area series: inside the walls of Nicosia.

Step through the old Venetian walls and you find a completely different side of North Cyprus.

The historic heart of Nicosia is a maze of narrow streets, old stone buildings, traditional houses, courtyards, markets and monuments shaped by centuries of history.

Walk through the old city and you’ll come across the magnificent Selimiye Mosque, originally built as the Gothic Cathedral of Saint Sophia, the Büyük Han, one of the finest surviving Ottoman caravanserais on the island, and streets where traces of Lusignan, Venetian, Ottoman and British rule sit side by side.

And then there’s something you won’t find in any other capital city in Europe, Nicosia remains divided. At the heart of the old city, the streets eventually meet the Green Line separating north and south.

It’s a fascinating place to explore on foot. Stop for Turkish coffee in the Büyük Han, wander through the old neighbourhoods, browse the shops and markets and take your time looking beyond the main streets.

If you enjoy history, architecture and discovering the story behind the places you visit, the old walled city of Nicosia deserves a day of its own.

Next in our local area series: Kyrenia Harbour.

As the afternoon fades into evening, Kyrenia Harbour takes on a different atmosphere.

Fishing boats rest quietly in the water, cafés and restaurants begin to fill, and people gather along the waterfront to enjoy the cooler evening air.

It’s the sort of place where you can wander without a plan, stop for a drink, enjoy fresh seafood, or simply sit and watch the world go by.

Whether it’s your first visit or your tenth, Kyrenia Harbour is one of those places you’ll find yourself returning to.

✨ There’s no rush here…

One of the things we love most about North Cyprus is that you don’t feel as though you have to spend every day ticking places off a list.

Spend the morning by the pool, stop somewhere for lunch overlooking the sea, wander around Kyrenia Harbour, or take a drive into the mountains.

Sometimes the best holiday memories come from simply taking the day as it comes.

Most people come to North Cyprus and only visit Kyrenia Harbour. See Bellapais Abbey or spend their days at the beach.

And they should.

But some of the best memories usually come from the places that weren’t on the list at all.

A quiet village café where lunch takes over the afternoon. An old church tucked away down a country lane. A mountain road with a view that makes you stop the car. A deserted stretch of coastline where the only sound is the sea.

That’s what keeps drawing us back.

North Cyprus isn’t somewhere to rush. Slow down, wander a little, and you’ll discover that every village, harbour, mountain and coastline has its own story to tell.
