Our Agia Eirini journey began on April 26, 2018, on a piece of land with two olive trees and a broken-down cabin, surrounded by thorny bushes. The original plan was to build a permaculture project, but the flow led us to create a campsite that still held firmly to the principles of sustainability and recycling. After an award which gave us a kickstart, we decided to run the project solely on donations and contributions from our visitors. They all became part of Eco-Camp Indigo and we grew together. Solar panels, gardening tools, speakers, couches, chairs, tables, a fully equipped kitchen, decorations—you name it—we achieved it all together!
Our biggest challenge was the lack of water on the location, but we overcame it in our own ways. We may not have fulfilled all our gardening dreams, but we managed to build a garden that fed us for years, collected rainwater, exchanged seeds and learned from our environment.
We had so much fun—wild, windy days; amazing nights full of dance and music; hikes, foraging walks, incredible dishes; mind-opening conversations and so on. We hosted people from all over the world and created unforgettable moments together.
Agia Eirini stole our hearts with its beautiful nature, mysterious history, gorgeous sea, colorful sunsets, starry skies, chirping birds, lizards, cicadas, and more. It was a pleasure to walk, to talk, to forage, to admire, and to share. Words are not enough. For us, Eco-Camp Indigo is a legend we had the privilege to build and live on—and most of all, to share the love with everyone who came by.
Now, we are heading toward a new adventure in Vasilia, a new project that once again focuses on culture, nature, sustainability, and education. Eco-Camp Indigo is not completely gone, but it is no longer in Agia Eirini—or anywhere—until we set up a new space. In any case, we believe the community that grew out of this place goes beyond the location itself; it is a community that reaches from this island to the world.
We’d like to note that we will always be deeply grateful to Umut’s family for giving us this opportunity.
And meeting you all on this road has been magical. We are blessed. Thank you.
