🌊 Today marks the final day of the CMMI–MaRITeC-X project, bringing seven years of cooperation to a close.
Since 2019, the Limassol Chamber of Commerce and Industry has been a proud project partner, supporting the development of the Cyprus Marine and Maritime Institute (CMMI) and strengthening its links with the local business community.
Through the CMMI–MaRITeC-X project, members of the Limassol Chamber of Commerce and Industry gained opportunities to connect with researchers, access marine and maritime expertise and explore new ideas for innovation. By bringing our members’ business needs closer to scientific knowledge, we opened doors to collaborations and valuable partnerships that can continue beyond the project’s completion.
Over the years, our cooperation brought together businesses, researchers, students, educators and members of the local community, united by a shared connection with the sea. Through these activities, we exchanged knowledge, built relationships and encouraged people of all ages to discover the marine world around us.
Our activities included, among others, business and research networking events such as “Think Blue, Think Green”, a photography exhibition, the “Name a Reef” initiative, activities marking European Maritime Day (EMD) and beach clean-ups to help protect the coastline we all share. Interactive school visits promoted ocean literacy, encouraging children’s curiosity and helping them understand why caring for the sea matters. Our activities also included co-organizing the “EU Meets Limassol: Towards a More Sustainable Blue Economy” networking breakfast, bringing together policymakers, researchers and business representatives to discuss the future of the marine and maritime sectors. To mark the project’s completion, the Limassol Chamber donated sea-themed bookcases and books to primary schools in Limassol, leaving something lasting for young readers. We hope these books will continue to inspire children to explore, ask questions and develop a love for the sea long after the project comes to an end. Each of these initiatives helped bring research closer to our community and strengthened the connections we look forward to carrying into the years ahead.
Thank you to CMMI - Cyprus Marine and Maritime Institute and all project partners for their cooperation throughout this journey. Special thanks to Zacharias Siokouros , Gotelenne Piaton , Antri Theodorou and the entire CMMI team for their support and close cooperation over the years.
Building on the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between CMMI and the Limassol Chamber of Commerce and Industry, we look forward to continuing our work together, connecting marine and maritime research with our members and the wider business community.
