Oinoessa is a complex of two luxurious stone-built houses, consisting of six deluxe studio apartments surrounding a private courtyard. Here, you’ll find that the kind of peace and tranquillity that the traditional Cypriot way of life offers is perfect for relaxing an unwinding from the stresses of modern life. The houses are situated in the heart of Lofou village, a beautiful area rich in the trad
itional stone architecture that is so typical of Cyprus. Hardly any traffic disturbs the atmosphere, so you really can appreciate the beauty of the place in peace. Lofou is set about 26 kilometres north-west of the city of Limassol and about 20 kilometres from the mountain of Troodos, the highest point on Cyprus. Lofou’s can trace its recorded history back to before the 12th Century, but the entire area has been inhabited since the Bronze age, so it is steeped in history and culture. Lofou is a charming village with carved-stone houses nestling in the hills above Limassol. The scenic views and the narrow, stone built pedestrian paths that wind through the hills are rich in the local folklore and great spiritual traditions of Cyprus. Lofou was made famous through its production of the popular local wines, and through zibania, the traditional local Cypriot style grappa. In years gone by, almost every house made its own wines, as every villager was involved somehow. It is for this reason that the guest house is called Oinoessa, after the wine that has made the area famous and after the name that the local villagers gave to the places where it was always produced. The houses that form Oinoessa were built in the middle of 18th century by our grandfathers, and have been lovingly and sympathetically restored by the family and local artisans, allowing us to retain all of the original features, combining the traditional architecture with the requirements of a modern guest house. The stone floors, the original walls, the ceilings and the traditional staircases have been completely and lovingly restored to their original state using local stone and wood, retaining the character and charm of the original buildings whilst giving us the freedom to incorporate the comforts that our guests expect. Each of our six studio apartments have been elegantly and stylishly decorated, and designed to provide all of the modern amenities and conveniences that are needed to relax during your stay with us. Our studios are ideal for couples, families or groups who enjoy peace and privacy, and who want to enjoy their holiday in the traditional village of Lofou. Large patio doors open from the living rooms, leading out into an attractive tree lined courtyard offering a shady spot to relax and dine. The Oinoessa studios offer style and comfort, featuring fireplaces in the living rooms and comfortable seating for up to 4 – 8 guests. In addition, we have plush beds featuring Beautyrest pillow top mattresses, covered in fine linens which ensure a restful night’s sleep, and our fully-equipped kitchens give you the opportunity to cook your own dishes for that personal touch. Oinoessa also offers a wide choice of indoor and outdoor facilities and comforts, and combines this with modern requirements such as full Internet WiFi access, air-conditioning, LED Televisions and so on. Lofou village can provide you with whatever you need on your holiday. We have a mini market (Mpakalliko tou Xeni) that is open every day, cafes and tavernas serving traditional alcohol drinks and “meze” (small dishes of local cuisine) and a wide choice of restaurants. The legendary quality of the light in the early morning and the late afternoon thrills the artists and photographers that visit the narrow stone built roads and local valleys and beguiles those who are just here to enjoy the scenery.
