Ohi Day in Lefkara – “No” for Freedom! 🇬🇷
Tomorrow, on October 28, our beautiful village of Lefkara joins the rest of Cyprus and Greece in celebrating "Ohi Day" - a day of courage, unity, and remembrance.
Why “Ohi”? Because more than 80 years ago, the Greek Prime Minister said a single word - “όχι” (“no”) in response to an ultimatum from Italy. That “no” became a symbol of resistance and national pride.
Here in Lefkara, traditions meet history. Among the stone houses, lace, and silverwork, the spirit of freedom feels alive today. You might see flags fluttering on balconies, hear church bells, or notice locals gathering in the square, small but heartfelt celebrations of this special day.
📸 If you’re in the village:
• Take a stroll through the streets and capture how Lefkara celebrates 🇨🇾
• Share your photos with let others see how history and beauty meet here
• Drop by your favorite café or shop, you might find a little festive surprise waiting
💬 And if you’re around today, tell us what caught your eye: the flags, the songs, the smiles, or maybe just the peaceful energy of the day.
Happy Ohi Day!
May the spirit of “No” remind us always to stand for freedom, unity, and respect for our roots.
