The appearance of the Old Town Square changed a lot ❗️Statue of the Virgin Mary has been returned here on June, 4.

The original Marian column was built in the Old Town Square square in the year 1650. The statue author was Jan Jiri Bendl, a great Czech sculptor.
In 1918 the column was ripped off by the mob, because they interpreted it as the symbol of the Habsburg monarchy.
In 2013 the Prague City Council has approved the revitalization plan for the Old Town Square that included the installation of a replica of the Marian column. Its sculptor Petr Váňa has spend the last 15 years working on the column. And on Thursday the replica of the Marian column was erected on the square again.
