OUR STORY
A splendid neo-Renaissance building which has preserved the best of its past, Carlo IV, is a hotel that invites you to discover the Prague of today. A magnificent lobby is the focal point for daily comings and goings, and elsewhere the design takes the stuccoes and frescoes from another era and complements them with contemporary additions and luxurious detailing. Elegant rooms and suites, 152 in all, are designed in classic style, mixing contemporary and antique pieces. Fine and relaxed dining are both on offer. A 20m blue mosaic pool – the heart of the immersive spa retreat – is a standout attraction for a city-centre hotel. Gentleman Jack meets apple cordial, the herbal edge of dry vermouth and a touch of pepper syrup, with lime for balance and a soft foam to finish. of created it for the Gentleman Jack Competition: polished on the surface, with character underneath.

Step 10 minutes from our door and you're standing where modern Czech history was written. It looks like a square, but it's really a grand boulevard — 750 metres of the city laid out before you, a medieval horse market that took its name, and its saint, in 1848. At the top, Saint Wenceslas rides his bronze horse in Myslbek's celebrated statue, the National Museum rising gold behind him.

This is Prague's great gathering place. Crowds filled it to declare independence in 1918, and again in 1989, when a nation jingled its keys and a regime fell. These days it's gentler — lined with shops, café terraces and hidden arcades — and after more than 40 years away, the trams are on their way back, due to return to the upper square in 2027.

Chef Josef Votoček doesn’t rush a good thing. His veal T-bone arrives with cowboy butter melting right into it — the kind of plate that makes an evening at 1890 Restaurant linger. Our summer menu runs until 20th September, so there’s still time.

More than a century apart. Can you spot what stayed the same?

Built in the 1890s for the First Czech Land Mortgage Bank, this grand hall now welcomes hotel guests—with reception on one side and 1890 Bar on the other.

But look up and its former life reveals itself. Statues of angels, coats of arms and intricate details surround the glass ceiling, keeping more than a century of stories above the bustle of the lobby.

Detox, restore, renew. Our new Himalayan Ritual is a 90-minute journey into the restorative world of Himalayan salt — crystals formed deep in the mountains over millions of years, and autumn’s invitation to slow down.
