On Sunday, the Vodafone Prague Marathon took over the city center, drawing nearly 12,000 runners for the main 42km race that started at 8am from Old Town Square. The route looped along the Vltava, past Charles Bridge and Vyšehrad, back through historic streets to finish right by the Astronomical Clock.

Ethiopian Berehanu Wendemu Tsegu won the men's race in 2:05:51, just 42 seconds off the course record.. Milicent Jelimo from Kenya took the women's title in 2:24:19. Czech Yann Havlena claimed the national title in 2:17:48, improving his personal record.

For a few hours, roads from Old Town to Smíchov were closed for transport, which turned the center into one big spectator zone with people cheering along the barriers. Some of our guests were out watching by the river, while others guests were running themselves. If you're planning to run next year, make sure to stay with us!

Yesterday, we celebrated the first of May. In the Czech Republic, it is traditionally known as the day of love, and in Prague it has long been connected with spring walks, blooming trees, and a quiet moment to slow down after the winter.

For many locals, the day has a simple but meaningful tradition: a walk with someone close, often to a place with cherry blossoms or a nice view over the city. In Prague, Petřín is especially well known for this, but the feeling is really everywhere once the city starts to turn green again.

We hope our guests got to enjoy that special spring atmosphere too and if you weren't there to experience it, we hope you will be there to see it next year!

Last Friday, Prague welcomed a new landmark with the opening of the Dvorecký Bridge. The bridge connects the areas of Podolí and Smíchov, and we’re excited to see how it will help bring both riverbanks to life even more.

For locals and visitors alike, it should also become a new spot to enjoy a walk and take in the views over the Vltava. And with the riverbanks in the city center often packed during the season, it’s nice to have another place where people can slow down for a bit and just enjoy the atmosphere.

The bridge is designed for pedestrians and public transport only, so it should stay a calm and pleasant place to cross. We’re looking forward to seeing how it becomes part of everyday life in Prague - and maybe a new favorite stop for you, when you pay us a visit.

EASTER IN PRAGUE!

Easter is being celebrated in Prague! The markets on Old Town Square are up and running with painted eggs, willow switches, decorations, and all the usual Easter stuff around town. You can walk around the center, grab something from the stalls, and just enjoy proper spring weather.

We’ve got photos below of our hotel garden - as you may have experienced it when you visited us in the past, guests have been hanging out there all weekend, having coffee, reading, or just sitting outside now that it’s finally nice out. And Nero is enjoying it too!

If you’re planning a trip to Prague soon, we will be happy to welcome you at Aparthotel City 5! We’re looking forward to seeing you!

The Christmas season has officially arrived in Prague. Last week, the beautifully decorated tree on Old Town Square lit up for the first time, filling the heart of the city with festive warmth. The Christmas markets are slowly opening, the smell of mulled wine is in the air, and even the iconic Christmas tram has begun its cheerful rides through the streets.

Our guests have already started soaking in the holiday atmosphere - and you can catch a glimpse of it too in the photos below.

We can’t wait to share the magic of Prague at Christmastime with you.

Yesterday, Prague welcomed its first snowfall of the season, covering the city’s rooftops and cobblestone streets in a soft white layer. The city felt suddenly quieter, brighter, and a little more magical.

It was wonderful to see our guests enjoying the winter atmosphere — and you can feel it too in the photos attached below.

We look forward to sharing even more of Prague’s snowy charm with you as the season continues.

Last week, on November 17th, the Czech Republic marked the Day of Freedom and Democracy - a moment to reflect on the courage of students and citizens who stood up for their rights in 1939 and again in 1989. These two milestones, separated by fifty years, shared a common thread: the determination of ordinary people to defend their dignity and shape their own future.

Across Prague, especially along Národní třída, visitors and locals paused to light candles, leave flowers, and remember those who helped open the path toward a free society. Universities, cultural institutions, and civic groups hosted talks, exhibitions, and gatherings that encouraged reflection on the value of democratic principles today.

The city came alive with concerts, readings, and community events that honored the spirit of openness and hope that has long defined this day.

We’re grateful to be part of a country with such a remarkable story - and we hope to share this meaningful autumn tradition with you next year. Few places feel as magical as Prague in November.

Autumn in Prague & Czech Statehood Day

Autumn has arrived in Prague, bringing shorter days, cooler evenings, and a special charm to the city’s streets. At the same time, we have just celebrated Czech Statehood Day on September 28, dedicated to St. Wenceslas, the patron saint of our country.
This day reminds us of Czech history and identity, and of one of the oldest Czech songs, the St. Wenceslas Chorale, which has been sung for more than 700 years as a symbol of unity.

You can listen to the Chorale here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ru_YE-SAVTU&list=RDru_YE-SAVTU&start_radio=1

And remember — autumn is also a wonderful time to visit Prague. We will be happy to welcome you at Aparthotel City 5 during this beautiful season.

Prague remembers August 1968!

In mid-August 1968, Czechoslovakia was on the brink of change. The Prague Spring, a period of political and cultural liberalization, had introduced reforms such as freer press, relaxed travel restrictions, and attempts at a more open economy.

On August 21, 1968, forces of the Warsaw Pact, led by the Soviet Union, invaded the country in what was called “Operation Danube.” Tens of thousands of soldiers and hundreds of tanks entered Prague and other cities, meeting resistance from civilians. Dozens were killed, hundreds injured, and the reformist government was replaced by leaders loyal to Moscow.

The invasion ended the Prague Spring and started a long period of political normalization that lasted until 1989. Today, the city still bears reminders of these events through memorials, plaques, and the stories passed down by those who lived through the occupation.

Take a look at the attached photos to see how Prague looked on August 21, 1968, during the invasion.
