This picture easily identifies the famous Swedish writer Astrid Lindgren.
The picture from our archives must have been taken at the end of the 1970s when the writer was visiting Frankfurt. There she was awarded the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade. Astrid Lindgren was the first children's book writer to be awarded this important peace prize.
With Pippi Longstocking, Emil of Lönneberga, The Children of the Noisy Village, Karlsson on the Roof, and The Brothers Lionheart, she continues to inspire children worldwide to this day.
We find this to be a truly enchanting snapshot.

Auf diesem Bild lässt sich unschwer die berühmte schwedische Schriftstellerin Astrid Lindgren erkennen.
Das Bild aus unserem Archiv muss vermutlich Ende der 70er Jahre aufgenommen worden sein, als die Schriftstellerin in Frankfurt zu Besuch war. Dort bekam sie den Friedenspreis des deutschen Buchhandels verliehen. Damit war Astrid Lindgren die erste Kinderbuchautorin, die diesen bedeutsamen Friedenpreis verliehen bekommen hat.
Mit Pippi Langstrumpf, Michel aus Lönneberga, die Kinder von Bullerbü, Karlsson vom Dach und den Brüdern Löwenherz begeistert sie bis heute Kinder weltweit.
Wir finden, dass uns hier eine wirklich bezaubernde Momentaufnahme vorliegt.

Heading from Sachsenhausen back over the bridge to a new district - the old town.

A century-old project has come to an end in 2018. Due to long construction works taking place between the Römer and the cathedral it was not possible to visit the old town, which Frankfurt is well known for, for a long time.

Some elements of the half-timbered houses could be saved, however, most of them were destroyed in 1944. Since 2018 you can visit the beautiful reconstruction of the old town. Many individual stores and museums provide residents, citizens, and guests with the opportunity to enjoy the flair of the old town.
A special highlight is an archaeological garden. The traces of the Roman settlement can be followed and explored there. Discover the virtual 3D reconstruction of the former base of the Carolingian and Ottonian kings and emperors.

No matter if you visit the site in person or take a virtual tour, it is worth your time.

Not only the newly built old town can be admired but also the Caricatura Museum Frankfurt - Museum für Komische Kunst. The museum for comical art is definitely worth a visit.

Look who has returned to the Grandhotel Hessischer Hof! The lion - our little adventurer. Being curious as he is, he continued exploring our hotel and had a lot of fun. In his new postcard he writes down what he experienced on his tour.

Hello,
today I arrived in the beautiful city of Frankfurt. The dear colleagues from the Schlosshotel Kronberg and me traveled together by train to Frankfurt. Arriving at the Grandhotel, I was instantly recognized by the doorman, who greeted me warmly.
On my tour through the hotel, I looked at the beautiful event rooms and passed this statue on my way to the Roman Salon. Climbing up the statue I bravely checked out what else there was to discover. In the lobby, I even got a coloring book from the nice receptionists, where I could color the sights of Frankfurt. The coloring book is always ready for the little guests of the hotel and can be painted and draw in as one likes.
To end my exploratory tour, I went to the roof terrace. There I was served an ice-cold apple juice in the original Frankfurter Bembel. It was so wonderful; I did not want to leave. But the other companies of the group have also so much more to offer and explore so that I continued my journey with my lovely suitcase.

"Captain Fantastic Faster Than Superman Spiderman Batman Wolverine Hulk And The Flash Combined". Our heraldic animal, the lion, finds this quite amusing.
The name search for our lion goes still full speed. He is already very excited about the many great and creative suggestions that have been submitted so far. You all know our lumbering adventurer the lion, who writes postcards about his exciting travels through the individual companies of our group. Unfortunately, the little globetrotter is a bit sad because all his friends have their own names and he does not.

Therefore, we need your help in naming our lion. Be inventive and write us your name suggestions via the question in our story. Next week there is going to be a draw among all suggestions. You are going to make our lion very happy!

As already announced in our story, the city offers a great opportunity to relax in nature.
Matthias Eißner presents again some really unique places.
Not only New York has a big park to offer in the middle of Manhattan but also Frankfurt. This is one of the reasons why Frankfurt is also known as Mainhatten.

The recreation area, which consists of approximately 5000 hectares, offers the ideal terrain for excursionists, walkers, joggers, and cyclists.
A 450 km long network of paths, 80 km long bridle paths, and a total of eight still waters can be discovered here. Forest playgrounds, the adventure trail, or the building of wooden tents are only a few examples of some of the activities in the forest.
In addition, the city forest is considered the largest inner-city forest in Germany.
Whether alone, with a partner or with the whole family, everyone can find his or her own break from everyday life.

The Goethe Tower is directly connected to this part of Frankfurt's green belt.
Unfortunately, it burned down in October 2017. Chestnut as well as oak wood was used for the reconstruction in addition with fireproof steel. The pieces were screwed together in a huge Lego set to form segments. The festive reopening is scheduled to take place in autumn this year. Then, the observation tower is accessible again.

Furthermore, a kiosk and a picturesque restaurant are situated in the surrounding area.
This ensures that food and drinks are always available - the perfect place for an excursion.

Let yourself be carried away from everyday life by these beautiful surroundings. It is worth it.

From hobby kicker to football legend: Who recognizes this celebrity?

In our picture collection from the last century, we found this hand-signed photograph of Josef Herberger, who was a guest at our Grandhotel Hessischer Hof.

Josef Herberger, also known as "Sepp", was a successful German soccer player and national coach. He reached the peak of his career during the world championship final, known as the "Miracle of Bern". As coach of the German national team, he brought the world championship title to Germany for the first time in 1954.

P.S.: By the way, the German national team is going to play their first game in the Nations League against Spain on 03.09.

Vom Hobbykicker zur Fußball-Legende: Wer von Ihnen erkennt diese Berühmtheit?

In unserer Bildersammlung aus dem vergangenen Jahrhundert haben wir dieses handsignierte Foto von Josef Herberger gefunden, der zu Gast bei uns im Grandhotel Hessischer Hof war.

Josef Herberger, auch unter dem Namen „Sepp“ bekannt, war ein erfolgreicher deutscher Fußballspieler und Bundestrainer. Den Höhepunkt seiner Karriere erreichte er mit dem Weltmeisterschaftsendspiel, das als „Wunder von Bern“ bekannt ist. Als Bundestrainer der deutschen Nationalmannschaft holte er damals im Jahr 1954 erstmalig den Weltmeistertitel nach Deutschland.

P.S.: Übrigens hat die deutsche Nationalmannschaft am 03.09. wieder ihr erstes Spiel in der Nations League gegen Spanien.
