We are Soldiers first, sworn to defend the people of the United States by defeating our nation’s enemies in combat. We are Dragoons, the oldest mounted regiment on continuous active service in the U.S. From its formation in 1836 to fight in the Second Seminole War, to its numerous deployments to the Middle East, the Regiment has distinguished itself in major campaigns: the Indian Wars, the Mexican

War, the Civil War, the Spanish-American War, both world wars, and the Persian Gulf War. We are Lakota Troop, named in honor of the mighty people who were once the adversaries of this Regiment during our nation’s westward expansion. Though the actions of our government in these times are highly controversial, the fact that the Lakota people were exceptional warriors and a great people still remains. Their name deserves our honor and respect. Be proud of who we are. We are one of the most storied units in the US military and now you have the opportunity to put your mark on it.
