Many volunteers come to Campacocha and offer their assistance with basic construction, environmental projects, ecotourism support and micro-enterprise programs. International tourists have visited the village and discovered the wonderful activities available there. For example, since Campacocha is located in the Amazon Rain Forest, tourists can go on an amazing hike through their 5000 acre primary
forest reserve, as well as canoe on the Amazon River, enjoy traditional Kichwa delicacies or pan for gold, among other things. Most importantly, Campococha is surrounded by a beautiful green environment, a perfect atmosphere for anyone seeking an escape from concrete jungles to anyone looking for a great place to enjoy nature. The people in this community are close knit and maintain their Kichwa cultural traditions. Most families are economically dependent upon their small farms, usually located near the river flood plain or bordering nearby forest reserves. One major area of service work is teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) . In this community there are no ESL teachers, and youth rely on lessons from volunteers. Additionally, the most lucrative crop for the village is the Cocoa or Cacao plant (chocolate), which has a rather difficult growing season and requires intensive manual labor for cultivation. The Campococha community is a cohesive group of very hard working famillies, and they would definitely welcome help from anyone willing to offer business ideas, work in the fields, or teach English.
