We are the first lodge in Cuyabeno founded and managed by the local Kichwa community. As an Indigenous-owned lodge, we are committed to responsible tourism, the conservation of the Amazon rainforest, and the well-being of our community.

In the serene waters of Cuyabeno, within our exclusive private lagoon accessible only to Kichwa Lodge and its guests where exploration takes place solely by small paddle canoe and in complete silence, a truly rare Amazonian encounter awaits. Far from the usual routes and immersed in pristine rainforest, guests may have the extraordinary opportunity to observe the elusive Amazonian manatee in its natural habitat, gliding quietly through the still waters and feeding among the lush aquatic vegetation. It is an intimate and privileged wildlife experience, offering a deep connection with one of the most enigmatic and rarely seen mammals of the Ecuadorian Amazon.

This weekend we had an unexpected visit at Kichwa Lodge, Cuyabeno Reserve 🌿 We spotted a Crested Caracara, or Kurikingue, outside its usual habitat. It normally lives in the Ecuadorian Andes between 2,000 and 4,000 masl, but this time it surprised us right here in the lowland Amazon rainforest, reminding us that nature always finds its way.

At Kichwa Lodge, we are always improving our services to provide a better experience for our visitors. We have acquired new bus-style seats so our travelers can feel more comfortable and enjoy long journeys in a more relaxing and less stressful way.

This month, we also added 4-stroke engines that produce less noise and less smoke, making them more environmentally friendly and reducing the impact on the wildlife of the rainforest. In addition, we now provide 24-hour electricity thanks to our solar panel system.

All of this has been possible thanks to your visits and the support you give to our dream and community project. We are very happy and excited to continue growing in a sustainable way.

Would you like to know what’s next? Very soon, our boat will have a sliding roof system to make navigation even more comfortable and special. But to continue achieving these improvements, we need your support. Thank you for being part of our story.
