We're excited to announce that we have confirmed departures for our birdwatching adventure in the Kichwa territory, from the 15th to the 20th of this month. 🌳

Join us to explore the lush jungle and discover the incredible diversity of birds that inhabit this unique ecosystem. Our expert guides will take you by canoe through rivers and trails, counting all the birds we can find in a 72,000-hectare territory of the Kichwa people, conserved by the Kichwa community. We're super happy to have reached the final part of our bird-watching tour, and we're thrilled to have spotted our target: a juvenile Harpy Eagle! We've named it Sabalito, which refers to a small fish similar to a sardine, abundant in this river. We invite you to come meet Sabalito, our young male Harpy Eagle. The Kichwa Eco Lodge, located in the heart of the Cuyabeno Reserve, is a pioneering project managed by the Kichwa indigenous peoples.

This lodge is the first 100% local Eco Lodge project that is managed and led by a young indigenous person from the Playas de Cuyabeno community.

This lodge contributes to the creation of local jobs, supports the conservation of the natural environment, and provides educational support to the community's children. We invite you to learn more about this unique project in the Ecuadorian Amazon.

Hello world. I am Edgar Noteno, founder of the Kichwa Eco-Lodge. I am a Kichwa indigenous person, born and raised in the middle of the Amazon jungle of Ecuador. As a host and one who knows many secrets of survival in the jungle, I invite you to explore together the tropical forests that my grandparents left as a legacy for our community. Being the son of the last Kichwa shaman of Cuyabeno, I would like you to come and learn more about this secret.

There are other very upscale lodges closer to population centers on the Napo River which are owned by large Quito-based businesses, but this is the only eco-tour option in the Cuyabeno region owned and operated by a local indigenous community. Edgar Noteno has made it his life’s ambition to directly support the indigenous community which survives on subsistence farming and fishing and has limited employment opportunities. He wants to raise money to give some promising students the option for higher education with the hope they will return to help the whole community. Eco-tourism is the life blood of the area.
