One of our Kichwa grandmothers, Digna, weaving a "shigra" (shoulder bag) made with the chambira palm fiber.

She is a wise knowledgeable woman, with many skills and stories to share with you.

These shigra bags are really resistant, last for years and years, can fit inside a lot of things and weight, and are an important component of the amazon kichwa outfit.

COLORS!!!
Now is a really good season to contemplate this colorful show!
Parrots are back to our salt clay cliff!!!

We have three species licking at the moment:
- Orange-cheeked parrot (Pyrilia barrabandi).
- Dusky-headed parakeet (Aratinga weddellii).
- Yellow-crowned amazon (Amazona ochrocephala).

This week a huge amazonian tapir (Tapirus terrestris) was diving really close to our canoe, it just keep swimming next to our boat while we were paddling.
Because we are far away of the area oversaturated by tourism, we have the chances to live these encounters with endangered species.

An old friend of our night walks at Millay Rainforest Project, Deinopis sp., "The Gladiator Spider".

The gladiator spider can make an expandable sticky web like a net. When an insect passes below it, it stretches out the net, lunges downwards and flings the net over the prey. Usually the gladiator spider make these webs standing on top of a big and clean leaf in order to avoid catching leaf litter in the trap.
