A bird that stops you in your track.

The Ornate Hawk-Eagle (Spizaetus ornatus) — one of the most striking raptors in the Amazon. This is a juvenile, still developing its full adult plumage, but already commanding attention with its iconic crest and fierce gaze.

Somewhere in the heart of Yasuni, hidden between two bends of the Cononaco river — this is the campsite.

From above, you can barely see it. That's the point.

Otobo's camp sits where the jungle is still untouched, where the river curves and the forest holds its secrets. No roads. No noise. Just the Amazon as it has always been.

When the river is low, we float — and we're not alone. 🐊

We can find 2 different species of Caiman, and the curious fact is that they are not afraid, and they don't run, they simply stay, until we drift away.

We need Otobo's eyes to find them.

1. Crowned Dwarf caiman (Paleosuchus trigonatus)
2. White or spectacled caiman (Caiman crocodilus)
3. Another individual of Dwarf caiman.

Meet the Little Cuckoo (Coccycua minuta) — small in size

One of the most charming birds of the Amazon riverbanks, this tiny cuckoo loves dense vegetation near water — exactly what you find navigating the rivers of Yasuni National Park.

Easy to miss. Impossible to forget once you spot one. 🐦
