Some fun things to do in Mompiche this November:

🐢 This is the season the sea turtles begin to nest on Las Manchas beach, so if you want to experience this amazing phenomenon, this is your best chance until January-February.

🏄‍♀️ The waves are already coming in, so hone your surfing skills in the breakers and have some fun out there on The Point. You can also take a surfing class with an experienced instructor to get you started.

🐒 To feel like an explorer and get to know the fauna and flora of Mompiche, take an educational tour into the jungle with a fantastic native guide who knows the area inside out. It is an amazing experience where you get to learn about the ecosystems of the jungle.

🦀 We know there are people out there who love artisanal fishing and that quiet but mysterious moment of waiting to see what dinner will be along with the satisfaction of knowing you caught it. Recommended fishing spots: La Bocana, Playa Negra, and Las Manchas, next to the river and mangroves.

🌅 Watch the spectacular sunsets from the beach. In Mompiche you have several beaches to choose from Playa Negra, Las Manchas, or Mompiche Beach.

🍲 Take a cooking class and learn how to make Mompiche's traditional coastal cuisine with a professional chef.

🐒 Hike the river and walk through the lush jungle to discover a hidden waterfall. You might even see howler monkeys and toucans on your journey.

🌊Visit Black Beach for a fun day out in the sunshine and surf. Rub the fine black sand all over your face and body for a head-to-toe exfoliation.

A vegan, black bean, sweet potato burrito with grilled garlic peppers, made with a handmade toasted gluten-free tortilla smothered in spicy chocolate mole sauce and garnished with avocado, served with a fried plantain slice and paired with a tomato cucumber salad and miso mustard dressing.

Mexican chocolate mole sauce. It's rich and spicy and now that we have loads of it, we put it on EVERYTHING! It's made vegan and gluten-free and it's so good.

Our Story

Secret Garden is a sustainable eco-home; with a kind of boat-deck/tree-house feel, where guests can experience tropical jungle, healthy foods and a wonderful host. Our main focus is the environment, and we work hard to minimize our impact on Mother Nature and reduce our carbon footprint.

The house is built from sustainable and recycled materials, and features composting toilets and harvested rainwater. There is one shared bathroom in the house, and an extra toilet in the garden. The showers are cold water only but we can heat water on the stove if you’re desperate for a hot bucket bath. Our lovely permaculture garden provides a variety of fruit and medicinal herbs that are used in our homemade products. Our motto is: Leave no trace.

Even if you aren’t staying with us, we will happily serve you breakfast. Get in touch one day before and let us know you’d like to come. Our fantastic breakfast consists of fluffy banana pancakes with local honey and homemade jams or chocolate fudge sauce, fresh tropical fruit salad, herbal tea or organic coffee, scrambled eggs or omelet with hot rolls, and freshly made tropical fruit juice. We cater to food allergies (wheat/dairy/nuts/eggs, etc.) and we can happily work around restricted diets.

We have a wonderful loft for our guests, called The Fish Tank, on the top floor of the house. There are two comfortable double beds with mosquito nets, a double hammock to relax in and a small chill out area. If taking care of the environment is your thing, this is your place. You can book with us through messenger and confirm your reservation with full payment of your booking. We request a minimum stay of three-nights. We look forward to hosting you at Secret Garden for your next vacation.
