The famous 89 butterfly. When it's wings are closed you can clearly see the number which is meant to resemble an eye to ward off predators. The bright colors on it's open wings are even more stunning in person.

Just a girl on her horse taking fresh milk to town to sell. This photo is one of my all-time favorites because it captures so much of what I love about life here. The simplicity. The quietness. A slower pace of life. And, of course, the natural beauty that surrounds us every day.

Went to church this morning.

Listening to the rushing water, watching the bamboo sway in the breeze and breathing in the peaceful stillness reminds me to slow down and appreciate what really matters.

I managed to capture this photo just in time because this magnificent pitahaya flower blooms for just one night.

It usually opens between 7 and 9 p.m., and its sweet fragrance attracts the nighttime pollinators such as bats. By sunrise, the flower has completed its mission and begins to wilt. Four months from now, it will have transformed into one of my favorite fruits.

It's official! In five months, I will be the proud mama of my first ever papaya that will be born on a tree I planted in the front yard last year. Isn't she cute?

Just 20 minutes from the farm, you can visit Cafe Frajeres, a wonderful place to enjoy a coffee picked right there on the property while soaking in the view of Nanegalito and the surrounding mountains. That particular morning there was an added bonus of flocks of kite birds riding the thermals over the valley, making me wish I could fly too.

When I first moved to Ecuador, I would dream about flying to Miami just for the day to go grocery shopping for all the foods I missed. Over time selections have improved here and I have also gotten used to the local brands. I did get excited though when I saw this Jif in Quito. I couldn't justify the $32 price tag, even if it was a double pack. Truthfully though, I can't stop thinking about it!!!
