Our mascot at River House has an impressive scientific pedigree: sylvatica, known by its more dramatic common name, the "little-devil poison frog." But to us, and especially to Nikola, this tiny amphibian is simply "KiKi."
While these frogs are indeed poisonous, there's an intriguing twist to their toxicity – they don't actually produce their own poison. Instead, they acquire it through their diet of specific insects, a remarkable example of nature's complex food chains.
It's amazing to see how Nikola and a tiny colorful frog became such good friends – it just shows that when you're gentle and kind, you can make friends with anyone, even if they seem scary at first!
Life just got better.
