Our Story

-A Landmark on Isabela with the only private Marine Iguana Breeding Center. Long history of local music created and heard there, featuring legendary "Gr**go Juan" with local band "Iguanamen of Galapagos". Iguana Murals by famous local artist " Fabo" adding spice and tradition to the property.

When one travels to the Galapagos Islands, one leaves with many unforgettable moments. Visitors fly back with unbelievable pictures of the magical creatures that reside in this hidden away paradise. If told to someone who does not know of the Galapagos Islands, they may not believe you as you tell them about the “pigeons with blue feet”, “cats with flippers”, ”boulders that walk”, and our most famous rock, “Lonesome George”.

It all began when my parents traveled to Isabela, the largest island of the archipelago. At that time the only way to travel there was in a small fishing boat called a“panga”,with a total horsepower of 50 and every drop of gasoline counted.

After the longest boat ride of their lives, they settled down quite nicely at the last house on the beach in a town of 2000, with triplet boys. My mother, growing up in Michigan, and my father, who grew up in the outskirts of Houston, Texas both felt like they had enough of the concrete, automobiles and the advances of progress.

Grabbing life by the horns,they were excited to build a family home. Some may argue in favor of an American school with little league and prom night, however, my parent's hearts were set on a new world, a new language, and a new culture. They didn't mind us not learning how to pass standardized testing.

While my mom put my dad to work, guitar in hand, entertaining our guests at sunset, she ran back and forth from the stores buying more and more local sugarcane distillation called, “Caña Manabita”, creating what is the foundation to the service we provide today.

My mom, wishing she had a third hand, and my dad creating “music in the air,” started the humble hostel\bar that they share with 200 marine iguanas.

You can take pictures to capture the timeless memories, and bathe in the nurturing sun. However, what we want you to take from your travels is that feeling of complete and utter relaxation when you finally sit down at the end of the day. You can stare out past miles of beach, surrounded by the people you love. This is the moment when your shoulders drop, your breath relaxes and the only sound you hear is the gentle barrage of the ocean waves trampling the sand coast. At that moment I will be there to hand you a drink and applaud you, for we should rejoice, for you have made it to the end of the world, to the origin of life. Your worries are gone and there is no thought of tomorrow. There are just two constants. I am here, and so are you.

So if you ever make your way to our little corner of the world and land on the doorstep of our welcoming bar at the end of the beach,our family will be there to hand you a drink and help you remember to slow down, live life, love life, and be happy.
