We have started a coliving immersion program this year! And it feels gooooood 🤗🥰
Ideal for young international travelers, who want to get closer to the culture and the language by helping out, while having their own time to rest, explore and do activities, in a trusted local community.
We organize immersions for individuals (on holiday/ gap year/ remote studies), and for groups (schools/ youth organizations)
We guide you to help us out about 3h a day (with kids, cooking, maintenance, social media, garden, animals, organizing intercultural connection…). The rest of the time is yours to fill (siesta, studying, working, beach, exploring, surf, footbal, learning spanish, chill with the others, making friends in the village…)
A great spanish immersion, as most of us don’t speak english. Usually it takes about 3 months (and a headache) to start speaking spanish from zero.
You’ll learn more than any guidebook could ever teach about Ecuador ✨

Aaaah simplicity 🤗
No big supermarkets, no endless choices.
You buy from the fisherman, eat fruit from the car selling in the morning, and hang your clothes in the wind.
It’s surprising how light life can feel when it’s simple 🌞
(and Manta is closeby -a little efford takes you to find the extra you value ✨)

We’re Inge, Juan and Micho — a traveler and two locals turned hosts.
We built Punta la Barca because we wanted a place where people could live simply, meet deeply, and raise their kids close to the ocean.
It’s not perfect, but it’s honest.
And we looooove seeing how people keep making it their home too ❤️

How to get to Punta la Barca?
The easiest way?
Fly into Manta (MEC) — we’ll pick you up there!
Or fly into Guayaquil (GYE) and take a 3h bus to Manta.
From Manta we are 30 minutes south, right by the ocean.
Once you’re here, everything slows down — even time 🕰️🌴

There’s always someone cooking, kids running barefoot, a dog waiting to go to the beach, a surfboard drying in the sun.
It’s not luxury — but it’s full of warmth.
You’ll find friendship, laughter, and that feeling that maybe, just maybe, you’ve arrived where you were meant to be 💫

Ever shared dinner with someone from the mountains of Ecuador, a surfer from Argentina, and a family from Germany — all in one night?
That’s a normal Monday here 😂
We believe intercultural connection changes the world — one shared meal at a time 🍲✨

A local kitesurfer, living simple life with his fisher family since birth. A belgian traveler/remote worker, stranded 5 years ago in his rural fishing village. Juan Andrés and Inge are their names. The pacific brought them together, extremely different in background and lifestyle, but sharing the the same values..
Values, such as a weakness for nature. That natural feeling of well-being when you’re outside. Being able to walk hours on the beach, listen to the birds, paddle towards the sunset, play with a dog, or stare at the sea fantazising about the whale just underneath the surface.. and knowing that in each of these peaces of nature lies the meaning of life.
Values, such as in love with sports. Kitesurf, juggling, beachtennis, football, yoga, surf, hiking, dancing... Whatever makes the body happy, makes our heart jump around :)
Values, such as a heart for the worlds’ cultures. All of us are and live so different, experienced and know such different things. Talking with all kinds of people nutrures our mind :)
Around these values we try to create our life. With local friends and family, we built a house from bamboo. Looking over the pacific and close to the village life, it is the ideal base to create our dream: something that would unite cultures, nature and sports. Something that would give the opportunity for slow travellers to live in this little piece of paradise, create a small community, and connect with the local life. We baptized the result "Punta la barca", referring to the hill point watching over the village and the pacific ("punta"), the fishing culture and the unique local shell living on the beach ("barca", As it pops into a boat shape when torn of the rocks).
In the mean time we made some kids also
Punta la barca is meant as an ecologically minded hostel, a co-working and meeting place, an outdoor sports center, and an inspirational base for doing good to the world. A home for the nomad, a base for the traveler, a launch for the kitesurfer, and a second home for the locals. We love guests as as we love family.. Which by the way has grown a little more recently, we have now two little boys running around! Feel very welcome to come and enjoy simple life with them :)
