Al Alamein is most notable as the place where the Allied forces of WW II gained a decisive victory over the Axis forces. 300 Kms south of Marsa Matrouh, is Siwa, one of the oldest oases in Egypt which is a popular tourist attraction. The nearby Al-Alamein battlefield and museum offer an interesting trip back to the past to relive another era of history.
