Horses Hipica La Caldera del Rey Just 10 minutes drive from the bustle of Las Americas, you find the traditional working farm of La Caldera, nestling in a lush valley, surrounded by breath

Welcome to La Caldera del Rey horse riding stables, Tenerife. We are located on a traditional Canarian farm, just 10-15 minute drive into the hills beside Playa de Las Americas, Los Cristianos, Fañabé and close to the other major Southern tourist resorts. We offer horse riding sessions ("hacks") for beginner and experienced riders, horse riding lessons for all levels as well as livery for horse owners in Tenerife. The Caldera is a fascinating location for the whole family whether riding or not; take a tour around the working banana plantations; enjoy a barbeque in our picnic area; see for yourselves a traditional working farm set in spectacular scenery, which has protection status as "an area of natural importance". Have a look around our website to find out more about the Caldera del Rey and we look forward to seeing very soon.

La Caldera del Rey translates simply as "The Kings Crater" and it is easy to see why; as you drive down from the summit road above Las Americas, the shape of a volcanic crater is clearly visible which, due to its fertile soil is incredibly lush green.

Since the 1500´s the Caldera has been a working farm, belonging to the Dominguez family from Arona. The variety of crops farmed has always been varied from basic staples such as potatoes and wheat to more commercially viable crops for export such as cotton, to***co and cochineal (the colorant used in make-up and clothes dye).
Today banana plantations and tomato cultivation under greenhouse are the most prevalent crops, grown for export to mainland Spain and the rest of Europe. Avocadoes, mangoes, oranges and lemons are also farmed here.
