At around 11pm on Thursday night a fire started in our beautiful valley, La Alcarria. The wind meant it spread fast and by the time I was aware, after being woken by friends, the whole mountain ridge was alight. The firefights worked through the night on foot and with the wind blowing away from us, we were able to stay home whilst keeping a close eye on events. But other people did have to leave their homes in the night, which must have been extremely tough. Once daylight arrived the ground crew had the help of the helicopters and planes, but still with the combination of the wind, dry ground and geographical challenges, it took until Saturday afternoon for the fire to be considered stabilised. The entire fire fighting team did an amazing job, we’re all so grateful for their efforts. This is the third fire in the Lubrín area this summer, an usual occurrence, but of course a very worrying one. It’s so very sad to see such large areas of our beautiful countryside blackened. But at least no homes were damaged or lives lost, and again this is thanks to the wonderful firefighters.
