🌍 Message to all cyclists visiting the Costa Blanca – please read & share

Over the past few years, it is not by chance that the region has become one of the world’s most popular cycling destinations.
It is not only the climate and the quality of the roads that attract both professional and amateur riders, but also the generally respectful attitude of Spanish drivers towards cyclists.
To ensure that this beautiful area and these conditions are preserved, we all need to take responsibility together.
It is important to understand that local residents use their cars to get to work, and many are increasingly struggling with the fact that large cycling groups occupy entire lanes on main roads, slowing traffic and blocking the flow of cars.
For this reason, we kindly ask all visiting cyclists to ride single file and, where possible, use the shoulder on main roads, helping cars to pass safely and smoothly.
If you are riding in groups larger than 10 people, please split into smaller groups of around 10 riders. This allows space for cars to merge and overtake when needed.
Those of us who live and cycle here are grateful for the safe and welcoming road culture and would like to maintain a positive and respectful long-term relationship with local drivers.

En los últimos años, no es casualidad que la región se haya convertido en uno de los destinos ciclistas más populares del mundo.
No solo el clima y la calidad de las carreteras atraen tanto a ciclistas profesionales como aficionados, sino también la actitud generalmente respetuosa de los conductores españoles hacia los ciclistas.
Para que este hermoso entorno y estas condiciones se mantengan, todos debemos asumir nuestra responsabilidad de forma conjunta.
Es importante entender que los residentes locales utilizan sus coches para ir a trabajar y que, cada vez más, les resulta difícil cuando grandes grupos de ciclistas ocupan carriles completos en las carreteras principales, ralentizando y bloqueando el tráfico.
Por este motivo, pedimos amablemente a todos los ciclistas visitantes que circulen en fila india y, siempre que sea posible, por el arcén en las carreteras principales, facilitando así un paso seguro y fluido para los vehículos.
Si se circula en grupos de más de 10 personas, rogamos dividirlos en grupos más pequeños de aproximadamente 10 ciclistas. Esto deja espacio suficiente para que los coches puedan incorporarse y adelantar cuando sea necesario.
Quienes vivimos y pedaleamos aquí agradecemos la cultura vial segura y acogedora, y queremos mantener una relación positiva y respetuosa a largo plazo con los conductores locales.

De afgelopen jaren is het geen toeval dat deze regio is uitgegroeid tot een van de populairste fietsbestemmingen ter wereld.
Niet alleen het klimaat en de kwaliteit van de wegen trekken zowel professionele als recreatieve fietsers aan, maar ook de over het algemeen respectvolle houding van Spaanse automobilisten tegenover fietsers.
Om dit prachtige gebied en deze omstandigheden te behouden, moeten we hier samen verantwoordelijkheid voor nemen.
Het is belangrijk te begrijpen dat lokale bewoners hun auto gebruiken om naar het werk te gaan, en dat het voor hen steeds moeilijker wordt wanneer grote groepen fietsers volledige rijstroken bezetten op hoofdwegen, waardoor het verkeer wordt opgehouden.
Daarom vragen wij bezoekende fietsers vriendelijk om achter elkaar te rijden en, waar mogelijk, gebruik te maken van de vluchtstrook op hoofdwegen, zodat auto’s veilig en vlot kunnen passeren.
Wanneer er in groepen groter dan 10 personen wordt gefietst, verzoeken wij de groep op te splitsen in kleinere groepen van ongeveer 10 fietsers. Dit geeft automobilisten ruimte om in te voegen en in te halen wanneer dat nodig is.
Wij die hier wonen en fietsen zijn dankbaar voor de veilige en gastvrije verkeerscultuur en willen graag een positieve en respectvolle relatie met lokale automobilisten behouden op de lange termijn.
