✨ Sant Joan Eve at Hostal Mare Nostrum ✨
The Sant Joan Eve is one of the most important and eagerly awaited celebrations of the year in Catalonia. It takes place on the night of June 23rd and marks the beginning of summer with a unique combination of tradition, fire, music, and festivities.
During this night, Barcelona comes alive with firecrackers, fireworks, bonfires, and street celebrations. It is tradition to gather with family and friends to enjoy a slice of Coca de Sant Joan, toast with cava, and celebrate until sunrise.
At Hostal Mare Nostrum, we love sharing local traditions with our guests. As part of our commitment to sustainability and support for local businesses, we have collaborated with the nearby local bakery Forns Del Pi 1968 (km 0) to offer you a delicious Coca de Sant Joan.
And we have a special announcement: the Coca de Sant Joan is already prepared at reception along with cava so we can toast together for this celebration (while supplies last 🍾🥂).
On the evening of June 23rd, we look forward to celebrating with you. You will also find coca available at breakfast on June 24th.

La Revetlla de Sant Joan és una de les celebracions més esperades de l’any a Catalunya. Se celebra la nit del 23 de juny i marca l’inici de l’estiu amb una combinació única de tradició, foc, música i festa.
Durant aquesta nit, Barcelona s’omple de petards, focs artificials, fogueres i celebracions al carrer. És tradició reunir-se amb família i amics per gaudir d’una porció de Coca de Sant Joan, brindar amb cava i celebrar fins a l’alba.

✨Ahir va ser una data que quedarà per a la història de Barcelona. Un moment històric per a la Basílica de la Sagrada Família . Així hem viscut la missa solemne presidida pel Papa Papa Lleó XIV i la posterior benedicció i inauguració de la torre de Jesucrist.
Hem vist per primera vegada la torre de Jesucrist il·luminada.
L’espectacle de llum, iniciat des de la base fins a la il·luminació de la creu, ha culminat amb una composició de llums, focs artificials i drons, que han dibuixat la figura d’Antoni Gaudí i la frase: «primer l’amor, després la tècnica».

✨Yesterday was a date that will remain in the history of Barcelona. A historic moment for Basílica de la Sagrada Família .This is how we experienced the solemn mass presided over by Pope Pope Leo XIV and the subsequent blessing and inauguration of the Tower of Jesus Christ.
We saw the Tower of Jesus Christ illuminated for the very first time.
The light show, which began from the base up to the illumination of the cross, culminated in a composition of lights, fireworks, and drones, which drew the figure of Antoni Gaudí and the phrase: “first love, then technique.”

We highly recommend using public transport to get to the concert 🚇
Since the metro station is right in front of our hostel, we encourage you to take the green line from Liceu to Plaça Espanya. Once you leave the metro station, walk along Avinguda Maria Cristina towards the Magic Fountain and continue up all the escalators until you reach Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys.
🕒 Barcelona metro schedule:
• Friday service until 2:00 AM
• Saturday service runs all night 🌙
🎟️ If you are travelling in a group, we recommend getting the T-Familiar ticket — a great option to share rides and save money during your stay.

Esta semana, nuestros compañeros de nos han hecho llegar el informe de resultados de 2025 🌍💧, tanto a nivel global como de vuestra aportación directa al comprar sus botellas en nuestras instalaciones.

💧 Por cada botella de Auara, se generan 9 litros de agua potable en países en vías de desarrollo.

Avui és un dia molt especial a Catalunya, un dels més bonics i emblemàtics de l’any: Sant Jordi.
Perquè pugueu formar part d’aquesta preciosa tradició, hem volgut tenir un petit detall amb vosaltres: trobareu una rosa a la vostra habitació 🌹, juntament amb un full explicatiu sobre la nostra tradició, símbol de l’amor i la cultura en aquest dia tan assenyalat.
Sant Jordi és una jornada única en què els carrers s’omplen de llibres, roses i un ambient molt especial. Si en teniu l’oportunitat, us recomanem gaudir d’algunes d’aquestes experiències:

Did you know that by booking at you’re less than 15 minutes away by metro from the tallest church in the world? 🚇✨
La Sagrada Familia, the temple envisioned by Gaudí in 1882, is getting closer and closer to completion… and in 2026 it has reached a historic milestone. 🙌
With the impressive Tower of Jesus Christ, standing at 172.5 meters tall, Barcelona’s iconic temple has officially become the tallest church in the world, surpassing the Ulm Minster, which previously held that title. 🏆
But this height is no coincidence. Gaudí, the leading figure of Catalan modernism, wanted his masterpiece to never exceed the height of Montjuïc mountain (173 m), as he believed that no human creation should stand above nature, which he described as “God’s work.” 🌿
And so it will be. La Sagrada Familia will not exceed that height, but it now reigns at the top thanks to the Tower of Jesus Christ, the tallest of the six central towers. ✝️
