Extreme Barcelona transforms the Parc del Fòrum into an urban festival where BMX, trampolining, and street art blend with the sea in the background. The best national riders will compete in the Spanish BMX Park Championship (men’s, women’s, and junior categories), while international elite riders will vie for Olympic points in the UCI C1 competitions. And to top it all off, the World Freestyle Trampoline Championship returns for the third consecutive year.

The Diada de Sant Felíx in Vilafranca del Penedès is one of the most thrilling cultural events near Barcelona in August, with top casteller groups building human towers up to 10 levels high. The construction of human towers, called castells, is a UNESCO-recognized Catalan tradition, and the annual festival, held from August 29 to September 2, draws the country’s best teams.

Spectators gather in the packed Placa de la Vila to watch dozens of people form a sturdy pinya (base), build level upon level, and finally witness a small child (l’enxaneta) climb to the top and raise a hand in triumph. The atmosphere in Vilafranca del Penedès is electric, with tension and thunderous applause.

If you missed the Gràcia festivities, don't worry, the Festa Major de Sants begins today and runs until August 30th.

The Sants neighborhood, behind Sants train station, transforms its streets with elaborate handmade decorations, live concerts, DJs, and traditional Catalan events like castellers (human towers) and correfoc (fire runs).

The vibe is distinctly more local than Gracia, with fewer tourists and more neighbors, and the food stalls and outdoor stages run from afternoon until late into the night.

Sagrada Familia is at its most spectacular in August, when the long summer light pours through Gaudí’s stained glass windows between 6 and 8 PM.

The UNESCO-listed basilica has been under construction since 1882, and August’s extended evening hours let you take in the forest-like columns and soaring nave after the worst of the midday heat. Book timed-entry tickets well in advance — this is Barcelona’s most visited attraction, and August slots sell out days ahead.

The Festa Major de Gracia is Barcelona’s biggest and most colorful street festival, . begins today and will run until August 21. During this week-long celebration, 17 local streets transform into themed wonderlands as neighbors compete for the coveted title of “Best Decorated Street.”
Each block embraces a unique theme, from enchanted forests to movie scenes, using handmade decorations, lights, and recycled materials. The result is a sprawling art installation that stretches across the neighborhood, with food stalls serving Catalan and Spanish cuisine at every turn.

The eclipse in Barcelona

On August 12, a solar eclipse will take place, one of the most spectacular astronomical phenomena that can be observed from Earth. A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon moves between the Earth and the Sun, blocking the sunlight that reaches our planet.

From Barcelona, the eclipse will be partial, but very close to totality: the Moon will obscure approximately 99.7% of the solar disc.
