A fun day learning all about wool with a group of knitters from Flanders. We followed the process from sheep to spun yarn and knitting to see how this wonderful natural fibre is processed. Many thanks to Carmen from Goikola, Olatz, Meritxel and Joseba from Olabe for all your help and sharing of knowledge.

Check out this beautiful lizard that we saw today at Olabe. Apparently it is a “Lacerta schreiberi“ or “Iberian Emerald Lizard”. Its conservation status is “nearly threatened - threatened” so we feel privileged to have seen it. Such beautiful colours! What an incredible world we live in!

Fencing 600m of mountainside with a 52° slope.

We continue to work on converting 2 hectares of what were pine tree plots into pasture land for the sheep. The two plots at the bottom of the picture are the ones we are working on. There is a 52º slope so it's not possible to use our tractor on it, so we are having to do everything by hand. The circles in the last picture are burn piles of brash that we have gathered. We still need to fence around 600m and lay grass seed down too. It's a costly investment but we hope it will be worth it in the long term!

A lovely afternoon here at Olabe. We just wish Zai our dog could be in the picture too. Sad, hard times losing a good friend.

"A living wall, blushing red. Having survived the onslought of a 7-year rebuild, Olabe's original rose bushes are resiliant and defiant... and thankfully so. They bring joy and colour.

"What's in a name? That which we call a rose. By any other word would smell as sweet "
(Juliet, in Romeo & Juliet by William Shakespeare).

Spring has kicked in, we have at least 7 pairs of Swallows nesting at Olabe, and the roses sound the triumphant entry of this glorious season!

We heard the first cuckoo back in March. Yesterday a lamb was born, so to go by the rule it will no doubt be small. But it's a girl and will stay in the flock. Sometimes, the best things come in small packages.
