There are plenty of golf courses in the area to suit all abilities. Marbella is a 15 minute drive to the East along the coast road and Gibraltar a 40 minute drive to the West. Within a few minutes drive you can enjoy a variety of excellent restaurants in San Pedro de Alcantara, Benahavis, and Puerta Banus, all reasonably priced and catering for all tastes. There are many good supermarkets nearby,
all accept credit/debit cards but you need to carry a driving licence or passport for ID. Puerto Banus is a 10 minute drive away, full of restaurants, boutiques and renowned for being the playground of the rich and famous as noted by the expensive boats moored in the marina. Underground parking is available under Antonio Banderas Plaza. El Cortes Ingles is a large department store, similar to John Lewis, with a supermarket and ample car parking found NE of the square. There is also a cinema together with pubs, clubs and bars. During the summer months the plaza bustles with exotic craft stalls and children’s rides. Puerta Banus has a lively Saturday morning market held near the bull ring; San Pedro’s market day is Thursday so if you are looking for leather goods these are worth a visit. Las Terrazas consists of Spanish style terraced apartments set in beautifully maintained, mature gardens and has an attractive communal pool with ample sun beds and sunbathing area. Your apartment has front and back entrances with the lounge patio doors opening onto a secure, gated garden/terrace with table, 4 chairs, 4 sun beds and a barbecue. Your back gate leads directly into your parking area via your own steps which have been fitted with a handrail to assist older visitors. The newly refurbished apartment has air conditioning fitted to all rooms. The lounge has two large leather sofas and for winter visitors there is an open fire for burning logs. There is a smart TV and DVD player. The dining area has an extending dining table and 6 chairs. There are marble floors throughout and both bathrooms are fitted with double wash basins set into a marble top, bath, toilet and shower facilities and are stocked with towels for both pool and apartment use. There are two double bedrooms, with two single beds in each. The master bedroom has an en suite bathroom, The single beds can be pushed together to form a Queen size bed. Both bedrooms are fitted with double mirrored wardrobes. The apartment also has a travel cot, bottle steriliser, chess set and some boxed games and a few children’s dvds. The kitchen is a good size with ample worktops, a larder fridge/freezer, oven and hob, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, juicer, kettle and all necessary kitchen utensils and enough crockery for 6 persons. There is a new washing machine and dishwasher and a separate hot water supply for the kitchen ensuring no shortage of hot water. Windows throughout are fitted with characteristic Spanish grills and front door has two locks and patio doors cannot be opened from outside thereby affording visitors confidence in the security of the apartment. The gate to the terrace also locks keeping children safe when playing. Gibraltar is located in the most southern extremity of the Iberian peninsular and is approximately 60 kilometres away. Gibraltar is a haven for duty free goods but remember there is a legal limit. English currency is accepted but change may be in Gibraltan which will not be accepted at home. You may need to go early to miss the queues onto Gibraltar. It can sometimes also take a while to leave, as the Spanish customs often work quite methodically. The island tours are very interesting but check prices first. There is a cable car to the top of the rock but it is often closed due to high winds, if open check times of last downward journey (it’s a long walk down if you miss the car). Most shopping can be purchased in Main Street whilst Irish Town contains numerous pubs. Changing of the guard usually takes place every Tuesday at 11.00 outside The Convent (the residence of the Governor of Gibraltar) which is at the end of Main Street. Graves of sailors who died of wounds received at the Battle of Trafalgar can be found in the Cemetery of Trafalgar near Southport Gate. Weather and time permitting you can take a boat trip from the Marina to see the dolphins in their natural habitat. A guide to Gibraltar can be found in the apartment. Ronda is about 45 minutes drive inland and is situated on two sides of a gorge. Its magnificent setting, Moorish Baths and 17th century Bridge attract many coastal visitors. The park behind the bull ring, with its fountains and flower beds, has dramatic views over the gorge and distant hills. The Ronda Rd is very popular with cyclists and motor cyclists. Jerez de la Frontera, the home of Sherry, Seville and Cadiz are all approx a 2 hour drive away for those who wish to explore the glories of Andalucia. Winter visitors can take advantage of the Sierra Nevada Mountains and skiing, again about a two hour drive inland. Easyjet, Ryanair and BA fly to Malaga from several airports in the UK and Monarch and BA fly into Gibraltar. Mid week flights tend to be cheaper than weekends and school holiday times tend to be more expensive. There are numerous car hire companies operating from Malaga airport.
